Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in service of A&M-Victoria engineering programs, including face-to-face classes in Victoria, Texas.
  • Promote A&M-Victoria engineering programs in the greater Victoria region with Enrollment Management.
  • Direct and oversee development and equipping of lab and classroom teaching spaces for proposed degrees.
  • Manage department administration including teaching, labs, budget, scheduling, and equipment.
  • Maintain relationships with local districts, community colleges, and industry partners.
  • Advise students regarding admission to A&M-Victoria in engineering.
  • Coordinate with Student Success for academic advising and mentorship.

Job Description

Texas A&M University-Victoria seeks a full-time, 12-month faculty member for an appointment as a tenure-track Associate or Full Professor or a non-tenure-track Professor of Practice to serve as the Founding Director of the new Bachelor of Science programs in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Software Engineering. The Founding Director will provide leadership for launching, promoting, and advancing these programs and will teach courses within the programs.



Qualifications: The Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in engineering are designed to serve the community in the Coastal Bend region of Texas. The Founding Director will serve as a primary point of contact for Texas A&M University-Victoria (A&M-Victoria), with a primary focus on developing and supporting the BS in Civil Engineering, Software Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering with a focus on the intersections between these disciplines. They will also need to satisfy the expectations of Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and ABET in terms of academic credentials, as well as all other employment qualifications of the University. The programs are anticipated to be open for enrollment Fall 2027. The Founding Director will be employed by A&M-Victoria and will teach face-to-face courses within the University's academic programs.



Victoria is about two hours driving time from Houston, Corpus Christi, Austin, and San Antonio. The Founding Program Director reports to Dean of the College of Natural and Applied Science, working within the Department of Engineering and Aviation Sciences, and has both administrative and instructional responsibilities.

  • Ability to plan and implement activities that increase the visibility and profile of the A&M-Victoria Agribusiness concentration within the regional community and agricultural industry.

  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting and working effectively with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, as well as students with disabilities.



Responsibilities


  • Teach classes in service of A&M-Victoria engineering programs, in line with academic credentials and professional experience. Teaching assignments will include face-to-face classes in Victoria, Texas.

  • Promote A&M-Victoria engineering programs in the greater Victoria region in collaboration with the Division of Enrollment Management.

  • Direct and oversee the development and equipping of necessary lab and classroom teaching spaces for the proposed engineering degrees.

  • Be responsible for administrative matters of the department, including teaching, laboratory and research facilities; class rotations and scheduling; budget; and equipment.

  • Maintain good working relationships with the Independent School Districts and community colleges in Victoria and the surrounding area, as well as with industry partners in the region.

  • Advise students interested in admission to A&M-Victoria for study in engineering.

  • Coordinate with the Center for Student Success to ensure that engineering students receive academic advising necessary to foster academic success.

  • Participate in student activities and campus life and facilitate mentoring for engineering students with industry professionals.

  • Engage in philanthropic development and community engagement in collaboration with the Office of University Advancement.

  • Actively participate in affairs of the University, including assisting the engineering programs achieve and maintain ABET program accreditation.

  • Coordinate with the Career Development Center to develop industry partnerships beneficial to A&M-Victoria and the engineering programs.

  • Perform other duties as may be necessary and assigned.



Because of the University's outreach mission to serve the broader Texas Gulf Coast region, the position may require travel and occasional work outside of normal business hours.

Education and Experience

The position requires an earned master's degree in engineering or engineering technology. Because this is a professional-track appointment, relevant industry experience in engineering as well as industrial design is expected. An earned doctorate in engineering with prior classroom experience and a knowledge of ABET accreditation and experience leading a program through accreditation is preferred.
