Job description

The Program

Foster Care at Taproot Community Support Services goes beyond providing housing for children and youth in care. It’s about creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where children and youth can thrive while embracing their culture and diversity. Our goal is to connect dependable, compassionate adults with children and youth who need them most, fostering brighter futures one home at a time.

The Position

We’re seeking compassionate, dedicated individuals who are ready to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and youth through both foster care and respite care.

These positions will require 24 hour per day availability. Available positions will vary and be required on an ongoing basis.

Suitability of the applicant will be determined through a screening process based on an agency interview and screening, reference checks, submission of required documentation (including a criminal record search on all persons over 18 years of age that reside in the home, current first aid certification and a medical fitness confirmation).

In Your Role You Will

  • Provide a safe, inclusive, and nurturing home for children and youth in need.
  • Encourage connections with the child/youth's biological family members, where appropriate.

Celebrate And Integrate The Child/youth’s Cultural Identity By

  • Attending cultural activities and events
  • Participating in ceremonies
  • Incorporating cultural elements like food, music, and art into daily life.

  • Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

To join our network of foster caregivers and respite providers, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • A clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Record Check
  • A valid Driver’s License and clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Current First Aid certification
  • Three (3) references
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training to enhance your caregiving skills.
