Signal 1 seeks a Forward Deployed Engineer to implement the AIMS platform within partner health systems. You embed with clinical teams, connect to secure data sources, learn workflows, and build monitoring and governance, including bespoke monitors tailored to each system.
You will also develop bespoke AI solutions, including agentic systems that automate and improve clinical and operational workflows, helping orchestrate an expanding portfolio of AI across health networks.
Signal 1 helps health systems accelerate AI adoption with a category‑defining technology platform. Signal 1’s first product, the AI Management System (AIMS), gives health system leaders visibility and control across their growing AI portfolios. AIMS offers comprehensive oversight of predictive and generative AI applications and introduces guardrails to mitigate downside risks. It sets the standard for Responsible AI in healthcare. Purpose‑built for healthcare and informed by years of experience managing AI at scale in other industries, Signal 1 empowers healthcare organizations to translate innovation into real clinical, operational, and financial outcomes. Looking ahead, Signal 1 is expanding into agent management to support and accelerate the adoption of agentic AI across healthcare systems, and to build bespoke agentic solutions alongside its partners. Signal 1 is a 30‑person, well‑funded and rapidly growing startup with strong product market fit and deployments at a growing number of top‑20 US and Canadian health systems. We were founded by Tomi Poutanen (former Chief AI Officer at TD Bank, co‑founder of the Vector Institute) and Mara Lederman, with early backing from Geoffrey Hinton.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you own the implementation of Signal 1’s platform, AIMS, inside a partner health system end to end. You embed with their teams, connect to their secure data systems, learn how their AI models and clinical workflows actually work, and build the monitoring and governance that fits them, including bespoke monitors when the standard ones don’t. You also build bespoke AI solutions alongside our partners, including agentic systems that automate and improve real clinical and operational workflows and help orchestrate the growing portfolio of AI a health system runs.
You work closely with hospital stakeholders to earn their trust, understand their problems more deeply than they’ve articulated them, and spot the opportunities worth building for. What you learn in the field flows back to the platform: the patterns you surface and the tooling you build make our platform better for every partner. Reliability and correctness aren’t features here; they’re the job. In healthcare the consequences of failure are categorically different – you’ll work at the point where AI safety stops being theoretical and starts being a patient outcome.
