Job summary

Alta Material Handling is seeking a full-time Forklift Shop Service Technician to join the Dorval, QC branch. This daytime, Monday–Friday role offers on-site work with no flat-rate structure.

You will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on customer forklifts and related equipment, while delivering excellent service and maintaining digital work orders. The position requires bilingual FR/EN communication, strong mechanical aptitude, and own tools, with opportunities for in-house paid

Qualifications

  • Bilingual French and English communication skills are required to interact with employees, customers and partners across Canada.
  • Two years of mechanical repair experience in forklift, auto, diesel, agricultural or heavy equipment is required.
  • Possess own tools and basic computer proficiency for daily tasks.
  • Able to enter and update work orders in computerized systems and use web-based tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on customer forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair all forms of customer equipment.
  • Complete each repair job in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Work and manage workloads independently.
  • Accurately complete and submit required paperwork and electronic documentation, including updating work orders in company systems.
  • Track WIP, labor time, and job status using digital tools.
  • Follow digital workflows and maintain accurate electronic service records.
  • Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain consistent, regular attendance.

Job description

Alta Material Handling is currently looking for a full-time Forklift Shop Service Technician reporting to our Dorval, QC branch. This position is day shift Monday to Friday, and hourly (no flat rate!). The primary responsibilities of the position consist of, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities:
  • Performing preventative maintenance on customer forklifts and other material handling equipment
  • Diagnose and repair all forms of customer equipment
  • Completing each repair job in a timely, efficient, and professional manner
  • Providing exceptional customer service
  • Work and manage workloads independently
  • Accurately complete and submit all required paperwork and electronic documentation, including updating work orders in company systems
  • Track work-in-process (WIP), labor time, and job status using digital tools
  • Follow company digital workflows and maintain accurate electronic service records
  • Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start time

We encourage our technicians to participate in our in-house paid training program, allowing them to acquire additional skills in diagnosis and troubleshooting and further advance their career as a technician. Also, company uniforms are provided!

Qualifications:
  • Bilingual French and English communication skills are required for this position. The duties of this role involve frequent oral and written communications with employees, customers, and business partners across Canada, including individuals who conduct business in English. Knowledge of English is therefore necessary to perform the responsibilities of the position and to maintain effective communications with these stakeholders.

  • Two years of previous mechanical repair experience in forklift, auto, diesel, agricultural or heavy equipment repair experience
  • Previous field experience is highly preferable
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Possess own tools

  • Basic computer proficiency, including daily use of a laptop
  • Ability to enter and update work orders in a computerized system
  • Comfortable using web-based systems, email, and standard office tools
  • Language Skills - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Reasoning Ability - Intermediate: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
  • Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands; Frequently will talk/hear; Occasionally will sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Frequent bending and working from a prone position (lying down while working underneath equipment) are required.
  • Vision: No special vision requirements.
  • Lift and/or Move Functions: Regularly will lift to 10 pounds; Frequently will lift 11 to 25 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Regularly will work near moving mechanical parts; Frequently will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions; Occasionally will work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), extreme cold and heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, vibration
