Job summary

Nortera Foods Inc. is seeking a seasonal Forklift Operator to join the Shipping & Receiving team.

You will operate a forklift to move perishable vegetable products, load and unload freight, and support inventory control using handheld scanners and a computer system. You will report to a Department Supervisor and work in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment with fluctuating shifts and periods of higher intensity during peak production.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years forklift operation experience is required.
  • Valid forklift operator certification is mandatory and renewal is expected.
  • Attention to detail for accurate order picking and inventory control.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a forklift to move bulk product and load/unload freight.
  • Enter data in the computer inventory management system and use scanners.
  • Support pallet transfers and ensure proper labeling and paperwork.
  • Perform daily forklift safety checks and PPE usage.
  • Maintain organized work areas and assist production as needed.
  • Follow supervisor instructions and adapt to shifting priorities.

Nortera is currently looking for a highly motivated, energetic team member to join our Shipping & Receiving team as a seasonal Forklift Operator. Reporting to the Department Supervisor, you will benefit from the skills and knowledge of an experienced team who are committed to continuous improvement. This is a fast paced perishable vegetable products environment where the Forklift Driver will apply their proven track record of success in material handling, computer inventory, and space optimization. Days and hours of work will fluctuate with operational demands.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Safely operate a forklift to pile and take down bulk product up to six pallets high
  • Safe loading and unloading of both dry and frozen freight
  • Enters data using a computer inventory management system
  • Uses handhelds and truck mounted scanners to support pallet transfers from one location to another
  • Performs daily forklift safety checks including battery changing procedures and using proper PPE
  • Organizes materials and supplies for shift start and properly stacks/stores left over materials
  • Communicates tote needs and tote issues to immediate supervisor and quality control
  • Provide coverage for forklift drivers as well as move to various areas depending on production needs
  • Accurately and properly label products, and properly fill out paperwork daily
  • Strictly adhere to all safety procedures while operating a forklift, including Lock Out/Tag Out and the use of PPE
  • Follow directions from shift Supervisor or Lead
  • Other duties as may be assigned

OTHER PROFILE DETAILS:

  • 1-2 years forklift operation experience required.
  • Valid forklift operator certification is mandatory, with practical and theory refreshers recertification required.
  • Attention to detail for accurate order picking and inventory control.
  • Spatial awareness for maneuvering in busy environments.
  • Ability to lift, stand, and perform physical tasks. This position is suggested to be a medium to heavy lifting capability role: lifting up to 40lbs. Appropriate work intensity level: Medium, but higher intensity during peak harvest periods.
  • Effective communication and ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Must be able to meet minimum dexterity requirements of this position: bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, crouching, kneeling, standing, walking, sitting, etc.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, cooperation, and teamwork at all times including cross-training others.
  • Must display a strong sense of urgency, must be dependable, reliable and punctual.
  • Willingness to cross-train in other departments once a full and competent operation and understanding of their respective area has been completed.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage a variety of work tasks and priorities.
  • With appropriate PPE, candidate must be willing to work in outside hot/humid environment and/or inside freezers.
  • Hourly wage range is $23.51 - $25.78 per hour (depending on prior experience and qualifications).
