Job summary

Nortera Foods Inc., the North American leader in ready-to-cook vegetables, is seeking a Forklift Operator to join our Packaging team in Tecumseh, Ontario. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you will load, unload, and move materials safely and efficiently in a fast-paced perishable environment.

You will operate forklifts, perform daily safety checks, use inventory systems and scanners, and collaborate with production to ensure accurate labeling and on-time movements.

Qualifications

  • Forklift certification and site-specific training required.
  • Ability to lift 11–55 lbs (5–25 kg) and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Willingness to rotate shifts and overtime.
  • High attention to safety protocols and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a forklift to pile and take down bulk product up to six pallets high.
  • Safe loading and unloading of both dry and frozen freight.
  • Enter data using a computer inventory management system.
  • Use handhelds and truck-mounted scanners to support pallet transfers.
  • Perform daily forklift safety checks including battery changes and PPE.
  • Organize materials and supplies for shift start and properly store leftovers.
  • Communicate tote needs to supervisor and quality control.
  • Provide coverage for forklift drivers as needed and move to areas as production requires.
  • Label products accurately and complete daily paperwork.

Nortera is currently looking for a highly motivated, energetic team member to join our Packaging team as a full time Forklift Operator. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Forklift Driver will safety operate forklifts to load, unload, move, and/or stack materials. This individual will ensure strict adherence to safety protocols to ensure smooth, damage-free operations. This is a fast-paced perishable vegetable products environment where the Forklift Operator will apply their proven record of success in material handling, computer inventory, and space optimization.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
  • Safely operate a forklift to pile and take down bulk product up to six pallets high.
  • Safe loading and unloading of both dry and frozen freight.
  • Enters data using a computer inventory management system.
  • Uses handhelds and truck mounted scanners to support pallet transfers from one location to another.
  • Performs daily forklift safety checks including battery changing procedures and using proper PPE.
  • Organizes materials and supplies for shift start and properly stacks/stores left over materials.
  • Communicates tote needs and tote issues to immediate supervisor and quality control.
  • Provide coverage for forklift drivers as well as move to various areas depending on production needs.
  • Accurately and properly label products, and properly fill out paperwork daily.
  • Strictly adhere to all safety procedures while operating a forklift, including Lock Out/Tag Out and the use of PPE.
  • Follow directions from shift Supervisor and/or Lead.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS OF THIS ROLE:
  • Successfully pass site-specific practical and theoretical forklift training.
  • Must be able to meet minimum dexterity requirements of this position: bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, crouching, kneeling, standing, walking, sitting, etc.
  • This position is suggested to be a medium to heavy lifting capability role: approx. 5-25kg (11-55lbs).
  • Rotating 8-hour shifts (Monday–Friday), with a bi-weekly rotation between Days, Afternoons, and Nights - open to on-call shifts including over-time.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, cooperation, and teamwork at all times including cross training others.
  • Must display a strong sense of urgency, must be dependable, reliable and punctual.
  • Willingness to cross-train in other departments once a full and competent operation and understanding of their respective area has been completed.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage a variety of work tasks and priorities.
  • Hourly wage range is $23.51 - $24.50 per hour.
