Gypsum Management & Supply, Inc. (GMS) is the leading North American distributor of gypsum wallboard, acoustical ceiling products, and other specialty building materials. Founded in 1971, GMS operates an expansive network of distribution centers nationwide.

Slegg Building Materials, part of the GMS family since 2018, has been serving Vancouver Island since 1947. We are your first stop for building needs, with multiple locations across Vancouver Island. We pride ourselves on our dedicated team and welcoming work environment.

We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Forklift Operator. This role involves preparing loads and unloading building materials in the warehouse using a lift truck, working with team members to exceed customer expectations. The shift is Monday - Friday, 11am - 7:30pm, with a wage range of $20 - $25 per hour.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily inspections of lift trucks and complete required forms.
  • Ensure lift truck maintenance and servicing are up to date.
  • Build orders to specifications for delivery.
  • Load and unload building materials safely and efficiently.
  • Verify load contents and secure materials.
  • Ensure timely shipment of products according to management instructions.
  • Maintain communication with supervisors and resolve issues promptly.
  • Represent the company positively with employees and customers.
  • Follow all regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Valid propane forklift certification.
  • At least two years of experience.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic mathematics knowledge.
  • Basic hand tool skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Sitting and driving for extended periods.
  • Climbing stairs frequently.
  • Pulling, pushing, bending, and torso twisting with weight.
