Job summary

Alta Equipment Group is seeking a Forklift Field Service Technician / Mechanic in the Dorval, QC area. This full-time daytime role pays hourly and requires working Monday to Friday with a company vehicle provided for on-site and client visits.

You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair forklifts and related equipment, and maintain accurate service records while delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

  • French language is mandatory (written and spoken).
  • Minimum two years of mechanical repair experience in forklifts, autos, diesels, agricultural or heavy equipment.
  • Must own personal tools.
  • Clean driving record and valid driver's license to operate company vehicle.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service mindset.
  • Basic computer skills, including daily use of a laptop.
  • Ability to enter and update work orders in computerized systems.
  • Comfort with web-based systems, email, and standard office tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on customer forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair various forms of customer equipment.
  • Complete repairs timely, efficiently, and professionally.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and work autonomously.
  • Update work orders and track labor time using digital tools.
  • Follow digital workflows and maintain electronic service records.

Alta Material Handling is currently looking for a full-timeForklift Field Service Technician / Mechanicreporting to our Dorval, QC branch. This position is day shift Monday to Friday, and hourly (no flat rate!). The primary responsibilities of the position consist of, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities:
  • Performing preventative maintenance on customer forklifts and other material handling equipment
  • Diagnose and repair all forms of customer equipment
  • Completing each repair job in a timely, efficient, and professional manner
  • Providing exceptional customer service
  • Work and manage workloads independently
  • Accurately complete and submit all required paperwork and electronic documentation, including updating work orders in company systems
  • Track work-in-process (WIP), labor time, and job status using digital tools
  • Follow company digital workflows and maintain accurate electronic service records
  • Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start time

Qualifications:
  • Fluent in French - written and spoken (mandatory)
  • Two years of previous mechanical repair experience in forklift, auto, diesel, agricultural or heavy equipment repair experience
  • Previous field experience is highly preferable
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Possess own tools
  • Must have clean driving record and valid driver’s license to drive company vehicle
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer proficiency, including daily use of a laptop
  • Ability to enter and update work orders in a computerized system
  • Comfortable using web-based systems, email, and standard office tools
  • Language Skills - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Reasoning Ability - Intermediate: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
  • Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands; Frequently will talk/hear; Occasionally will sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Frequent bending and working from a prone position (lying down while working underneath equipment) are required.
  • Vision: No special vision requirements.
  • Lift and/or Move Functions: Regularly will lift to 10 pounds; Frequently will lift 11 to 25 pounds.
  • Work Environment: Regularly will work near moving mechanical parts; Frequently will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions; Occasionally will work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), extreme cold and heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, vibration
