Guided by our vision that together we will protect, enhance, restore, expand and connect Mississauga’s Natural Heritage System and Urban Forest to sustain a healthy community for present and future generations, the Forestry Section is a progressive and interdisciplinary team of professionals and experts that plans, sustains, and manages Mississauga’s trees, forests, and natural areas in an effective, efficient and equitable manner.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Forestry Resource Management, the successful candidate will directly support the initiation, planning, and execution of the Forestry and Natural Heritage Master Plan and its related policies, studies, and projects. They will also coordinate the planning and delivery of various operational and capital programs and projects on streets, parks, and City property that protect, enhance, restore, expand and connect Mississauga's urban forest.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the planning, procurement, scheduling and monitoring of contractors, consultants, services, personnel, equipment, supplies, and materials to ensure the most efficient and effective delivery of operational and capital programs relating to the urban forest
  • Coordinate all aspects of project lifecycle management, including initiation, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing projects
  • Provide direction to contractors and consultants
  • Coordinate and administer the complete contract lifecycle, including preparation, procurement, execution, monitoring and closure
  • Prepare effective specifications for contracts including analyzing bids and making recommendations
  • Ensure contracts adhere to applicable legislation, regulations, policies, and requirements
  • Ensure contractor performance aligns with contract specifications and service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Monitor contract budgets, coordinate invoicing, track expenditures and provide regular updates to leadership, identifying potential cost overruns or discrepancies
  • Ensure the timely delivery of quality customer service and resolutions to service requests, complaints, and inquiries from the public, elected officials, or other City staff
  • Develop, prepare, and submit correspondence, reports, briefing notes, memoranda, and presentations for leadership
  • Cultivate effective working relationships with internal and external partners, including members of Council and their staff, other departments, divisions, and sections, and members of the public
  • Represent the Division at public meetings, committees of Council, inter-divisional, and inter-departmental meetings
  • Participate and/or contribute to working groups, committees, task forces, and project teams
Skills and Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in urban forestry, forestry, arboriculture, or related discipline
  • Must be an ISA Certified Arborist
  • ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) would be an asset
  • 5 plus years of relevant experience in urban forestry
  • Knowledge of urban forestry, arboriculture, and landscape construction principles and practices
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing projects and contractors, including developing procurement documents, budget control, meeting deadlines and deliverables, contractor quality control, working with/on project teams and working groups
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with residents, stakeholders and elected officials effectively
  • Sound knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, and policies (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act)
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License or higher with an acceptable driving record

Hourly Rate/Salary:$37.79 - $50.39
Hours of Work:40,5 days in office
