Job summary

Ledcor is seeking a Foreperson with 2-5 years of field operations experience for Outside Plant (OSP) fibre optic projects in Ontario. You will lead a 2-6 person crew, execute project plans, and ensure on-time, within-budget completion while maintaining safety and quality.

You will oversee subcontractors, review blueprints, manage inventory and costs, and mentor new hires. Strong leadership, communication and proficiency in MS Office are essential.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of utility construction experience in a leadership role overseeing multiple project locations.
  • Extensive knowledge of cable installation and removal techniques, including fiber optic cable.
  • Strong understanding of construction practices, OSP, field concepts, and industry standards.
  • Hands‑on experience operating industry‑specific equipment such as trucks, drills, Vac trucks and heavy machinery.
  • Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental protection practices as they apply to construction.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, direct work, and supervise subcontractors effectively.
  • Strong grasp of construction documents, utility plans, contracts, costs, and budgets.
  • Excellent organizational skills with workload management and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee a team of 2-6 cable removal technicians, ensuring tasks are assigned and meet safety and quality standards.

  • Manage inventory, order replacements, and ensure proper tool maintenance.
  • Demonstrate leadership in health, safety, and environmental protection per PSSP and OH&S/OSHA.
  • Work with subcontractors, review work, manage invoices, and ensure contract compliance.
  • Oversee administrative tasks including tailboards, permits, timesheets, and billing.
  • Monitor and control project costs while handling escalations and customer service.
  • Ensure adherence to traffic protection, environmental standards, and restoration requirements.

Job description

You will manage quality control, including reviewing and managing project performance, while simultaneously ensuring safety, and delegating work to field staff, contractors, and trades people.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee a team of 2-6 cable removal technicians, ensuring tasks are assigned, executed efficiently, and meet safety and quality standards.
  • Train, mentor, and support new hires while providing guidance to the team.
  • Review project blueprints to determine the most efficient cable removal methods, identify hazards, and coordinate with other crews or contractors.
  • Develop strategies to optimize project execution, ensuring schedules, quality protocols, and municipal regulations are met.
  • Manage inventory, order necessary replacements, and ensure proper tool maintenance.
  • Demonstrate leadership in health, safety, and environmental protection, ensuring compliance with the Project Specific Safety Program (PSSP), Ledcor HS&E standards, and OH&S/OSHA regulations.
  • Work closely with subcontractors, reviewing work, managing invoices, and ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
  • Oversee administrative tasks, including tailboards, MH entry permits, timesheets, driver logbooks, and billing, ensuring timely submission.
  • Monitor and control project costs while handling escalations and providing excellent customer service.
  • Ensure adherence to traffic protection, environmental standards, and restoration requirements.
Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of cable installation and removal techniques, including fiber optic cable and various cable types with proper handling procedures.
  • 2-5 years of utility construction experience in a leadership role overseeing multiple project locations.
  • Strong understanding of construction practices, including OSP, field concepts, and industry standards.
  • Hands‑on experience operating industry‑specific equipment such as Asher trucks, directional drills, Vac trucks, small excavators, skid steers, backhoes, and road cut saws.
  • Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental protection practices as they apply to construction.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, direct work, and supervise subcontractors effectively.
  • Strong grasp of construction documents, utility plans, contracts, costs, and budgets.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with experience managing workloads, multiple priorities, and deadlines.
  • Aptitude for learning new technology and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with large telecommunications providers' protocols and practices in the Ontario market.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings and utility locates.
  • Must have a valid G driver’s license and a clean driver abstract.
Work Conditions
  • Applicants that reside in Ontario will be given preference due to the location of this project.
  • Work primarily outdoors on various terrains and in all weather conditions.
  • May require working in confined spaces, at heights, and near energized equipment.
  • Exposure to hazards such as traffic, electrical equipment, and heavy machinery.
  • Travel and out-of-town assignments as needed.
Compensation

$37.41 - $43.66 per hour

This is the applicable wage range for this position. Individuals will be assigned a base wage within this range based on trade certification and/or apprenticeship level, industry experience, and work location.

Remote, site-based positions may be eligible for additional incentives including but not limited to travel and accommodation allowances.
