What is the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital?

The Forensic Psychiatric Hospital (FPH) is a 190-bed secure facility located in Coquitlam, B.C., on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the kwikwəƛ'əm First Nation (Kwikwetlem). We treat individuals found not criminally responsible or unfit to stand trial due to mental health disorders. Our services are delivered through the "Clinical Program Model," emphasizing high-quality, patient-centered care.

What you'll do
  1. Escort duties: Provide safe escort for court remanded and maximum security individuals to various facilities, including hospitals and specialists outside the hospital. Assume custody and transport persons in custody from outside agencies, including video court appearances. Conduct searches prior to escort to ensure safety.
  2. Risk assessment support: Support clinical risk assessments by consulting with staff to determine security needs, applying restraints as necessary, and maintaining proper documentation.
  3. Security response: Respond to escapes, work with police during emergencies, maintain security systems, and train staff on security procedures.
  4. Behavior management: Interact with potentially volatile individuals to de-escalate situations, ensuring safety for all.
  5. Court and external interactions: Maintain custody during court proceedings, coordinate with external agencies, and support security for high-profile cases.
What you bring
Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 plus two years of recent related experience or equivalent.
  • Completion of recognized defensive tactics and First Aid Level 2 courses.
  • Eligible for appointment as a Special Provincial Constable, with valid BC Class IV Driver's license and current CPR certification.
