HJF is seeking a Forensic Scientist V to perform DNA Analyst duties on biological specimens in support of the Defense Health Agency's (DHA) Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (AFMES) at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. This role may serve as a technical leader in various sections, including Current Day Operations, Past Accounting, Family Reference, emerging technology, or Laboratory Quality Management. Technical leaders should have experience managing a forensic laboratory, including technicians and scientists, executing tasks, and sharing findings with the project team.

AFMES is a Tri-Service organization with divisions in Forensic Pathology Investigation, DoD DNA Operations, and Forensic Toxicology. Its mission is to provide medico-legal services worldwide, including human remains identification, forensic toxicology, death investigations, DNA analysis, mass-fatality management, and human reference specimen services.

Position Details
This position is contingent on contract award.
Responsibilities
- Write reports and publications, present findings in meetings.
- Provide consultation on complex projects.
- Possess knowledge of technical procedures such as DNA extraction, PCR, electrophoresis, oligonucleotide synthesis, DNA sequencing, and forensic DNA analysis techniques.
- Perform investigative studies on tissue identification by DNA typing technologies.
- Maintain documentation of methods development and research activities.
- Supervise/perform service casework involving DNA typing and profiling.
- Prepare formal reports suitable for legal presentation.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or forensic science with coursework in biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and statistics; plus three years of forensic DNA laboratory experience.
- Minimum of 8 years' experience, including three years in human DNA analysis of forensic samples.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of filing techniques, documentation, and software such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
- FBI QA Accreditation compliance for Technical Leads and Assistant Technical Leads.
- Recognition as an expert demonstrated through publications or industry experience.
- Ability to meet project deadlines, communicate effectively, and analyze data.
- US Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain T3/Secret clearance.
Physical Capabilities
- Lifting up to 10 lbs.
- Prolonged standing or sitting at a computer.
Work Environment
Primarily in a laboratory setting.
Compensation
Annual salary range: $88,600 - $150,800, based on experience and education.
