Job Title: Forensic Psychotherapist (in Training); Individual, Couple & Family Therapist

Company: Toronto Relationship Clinic

Location: Virtual, licensed to practice in Ontario

Salary: Contractor rate commensurate with experience

Who We Are

Toronto Relationship Clinic (TRC) is a focused group practice of independent contractors who are radically anti-oppressive, abolitionist, and actively working towards decolonizing the mental health and justice space. We provide an intensive and structured treatment program for men who have sexually offended, whether or not charges have been laid. We offer trauma-focused collaborative care to survivors of sexual abuse. We provide a comprehensive framework for addressing sexual harm through a restorative and transformative justice lens that prioritizes relationship and connection in a way that is protective and empowering for victims while allowing for offenders to be held accountable.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking to hire, train, and develop a relationally-oriented Forensic Psychotherapist to join our exceptional clinical team.

In this position, you will be working primarily with men in Ontario who have perpetrated sexual harm or have been criminally charged with sexual offences, including offences against minors. This position can also include relational work with partners and families and/or survivors of sexual trauma. This position offers a unique opportunity to enter the highly specialized niche of forensic psychotherapy for sexual behaviours, and to build your private practice while being part of a supportive community.

We’re looking for Registered Psychotherapists, Registered Social Workers, Registered Marriage and Family Therapists, and other mental health professionals who are recognized and authorized to practice psychotherapy in Ontario, who are passionate about transformative justice for sexual harm, who are motivated to learn, and who have a long-term vision for professional growth. We are open to meeting qualified therapists from diverse backgrounds who are committed to providing high-quality, systems-oriented, and justice-centred care.

In essence, we are seeking top-notch clinicians who are passionate about mental health and transformative justice, and who are eager to be part of a growing collective. If you're looking for a flexible and collaborative environment to start and grow your practice alongside like-minded professionals, we’d love to hear from you.

  • Provide 1:1 psychotherapy to clients
  • Maintain accurate, clear, and timely client records, clinical notes, and other relevant data
  • Attend weekly clinical and administrative supervision
  • Effectively manage professional calendar and be able to prioritize and complete responsibilities efficiently and effectively
  • Contribute to organizational marketing efforts (e.g. social media, blogging, podcasts, etc.)
  • Cultivate positive and respectful relationships with fellow clinicians and staff

You Should Apply If…

  • You are interested and motivated to learn about forensic psychotherapy for sexual behaviours through a restorative and transformative justice lens.
  • You have the capacity and drive to undergo an intensive training process.
  • You want an entrepreneurial role, yearn for autonomy and crave the opportunity to network and collaborate with fellow clinicians.
  • You aspire to build your own private practice with a structured vision for long-term success, but feel nervous about launching out on your own without support.
  • Your passion for working with clients is matched by a commitment to ongoing learning, curiosity, and professional growth.
  • You are affirming and experienced in working with marginalized communities, including but not limited to 2SLGBTQ+, BIPOC, and neurodivergent individuals.
  • Training or experience in the following modalities is an asset: Systems-Oriented Approaches, Family Therapy, Brainspotting, Narrative Therapy, Collaborative Therapy, EFT, AEDP, IFS, EMDR, or other specialized approaches.
  • Training or experience in working with forensic clients and/or survivors of sexual and other trauma.

Qualifications

  • Registered and in good standing with a recognized regulatory body, including but not limited to:
  • Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) - RSW or RSSW
  • College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) - RP or RP(Q)
  • Working towards or have completed a Master’s Degree in Couple and Family Therapy, Social Work, Counselling Psychology, or a related field with a preferred minimum of 1-3 years of clinical experience in mental health, the criminal justice system, group facilitation, community organizing, or any combination thereof.
  • A proven track record of implementing mental health initiatives and/or community development work that centres the dismantling of racism, anti-oppressive and anti-racist practices, and culturally responsive clinical care and its collective impact.
  • Strong ability to integrate critical analysis, problem-solving skills, and creativity with justice-oriented, client-centred care.
  • Ability to adapt and work effectively in a variety of settings, independently, collaboratively, and within diverse communities.
  • Writing, marketing, and creative skills for blog content, social media, and other projects.
  • Fully Virtual Practice: Work 100% remotely with the flexibility to provide therapy from anywhere in Ontario.
  • Competitive Compensation: Receive a competitive offer that is aligned with your expertise and contributions, acknowledging your dedication to the field. The compensation for this role is commensurate with experience.
  • Flexible Work: Enjoy the flexibility to design a schedule that aligns with your personal and professional needs for harmonious work-life integration, and personal well-being.
  • Private Practice Mentorship: Gain valuable mentorship and supervision for running a successful and sustainable private psychotherapy practice.
  • Operations Support: TRC will provide you with access to the online booking system, Jane, for psychotherapy sessions with clients and billing/booking services.
  • Administrative Assistance: Our Client Care Coordinator/Executive Assistant is available to support administrative tasks, helping you focus on clinical work.

Closing Date

Interviews will be held on a rolling basis throughout the Summer of 2025. Our priority is finding the right fit for our team, focusing on cultural alignment, skills, and the long-term vision for success. Applications will be accepted until open positions are filled.

How to Apply

If you meet the requirements and are enthusiastic about joining our dynamic and supportive team, please submit your cover letter and resume to connect@torontorelationships.ca detailing your qualifications and experience.

Process

1. Initial Interview

In this first conversation with Benita Joy, Founder and Owner of the Toronto Relationship Clinic (TRC), we’ll get to know you, your experience, and your approach to therapy. Expect interview questions designed to assess your skills, qualifications, and alignment with our clinic’s values and mission. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions about the role and working as an independent contractor with us.

As an independent contractor, you’ll have the freedom to shape your private practice within our clinic. In this stage, we ask you to present a business plan outlining how you envision running your practice, including your ideal client base, specialties, and overall approach to growing your caseload. This step helps us ensure a strong mutual fit and sets the foundation for your success with us.

3. Meet the Team

We believe in fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. In this final stage, you’ll have the opportunity to meet our team, learn more about our clinic culture, and ask any remaining questions. It’s a chance for both you and our team to see how we align in values, approach, and shared goals.

If all of these steps align, we would be delighted to offer you a role with us!

Note: This is an independent contractor position, and applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada. We are an equal-opportunity organization and encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds.
