Job description

About the role

We are seeking a Forensic Engineer, Fire and Explosion for our Claims Department to support our growth.

Intact is building a first-rate in-house team for technical investigation of the cause and origin of losses, aiming to improve claims management and the experience for policyholders.

As an investigator, you will determine the cause of damage by recreating the sequence of events, validating hypotheses with scientific knowledge, and producing detailed reports. You may also be called to testify in court as an expert witness.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Completing assignments for internal and external adjusters and working with building appraisers.
  • Meeting with policyholders to understand claim circumstances and investigating loss sites for causes such as fires, explosions, electrical failures, or malpractice.
  • Documenting scenes and supporting opinions on probable causes, contributing technical expertise to dispute resolution.
  • Participating in joint analysis of specimens related to claims.
  • Managing storage of related specimens.
  • Performing other related tasks as needed.

Requirements :

  • Thorough knowledge of buildings, construction, heat transfer, and fire laws.
  • Ability to investigate, understand, and identify root causes of damages, recreating events with scientific validation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or relevant sciences, with at least five years of experience.
  • Licensure or eligibility with a provincial Engineering Association.

Desired skills :

  • Strong communication skills for explaining causes and origins of losses.
  • Experience in insurance and court testimony is a major asset.

Certification :

  • Must hold or obtain CFI, CFEI, CFVI, or WETT certification.

Salary typically ranges between $88,400 and $132,600, depending on experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity.
