About The Role

We are seeking a Forensic Engineer, Fire and Explosion - for our Claims Department to play a key role in supporting our growth.

In an ongoing effort to better control claims management and improve the claims experience for policyholders, Intact is building a first-rate in-house team for technical investigation of the cause and origin of losses.

Through investigation and research, you will understand and determine the cause of damage while eliminating other possible causes. You will recreate the sequence of events that led to the loss and validate these steps with scientific knowledge. You will produce reports for various damages and may be called to testify in court as an expert witness.

Responsibilities
  • Complete assignments for internal and external adjusters and work with building appraisers.
  • Meet with policyholders to understand claim circumstances and investigate loss sites for causes like fire, explosion, electrical failure, or malpractice.
  • Document the scene, express and support your opinion on probable causes, and contribute technical expertise during disputes.
  • Participate in joint analysis of specimens related to claims.
  • Manage storage of specimens related to your files.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed.
Requirements

What you bring to the table:

  • Thorough knowledge of buildings, construction, heat transfer, and fire laws.
  • Ability to investigate and identify root causes of damage, recreating event sequences with scientific validation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or relevant sciences, with at least five years of experience.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure with a provincial Engineering Association.
Desired Skills
  • Strong communication skills for explaining causes and origins of losses and preparing reports.
  • Experience testifying in court and working in insurance or as an expert is a plus.
Certification
  • Must hold or obtain CFI, CFEI, CFVI, or WETT certification.
