Qualifications

Job description

Our Substations group is currently looking to add a Foreman (Substation Construction) to our growing team, based in Calgary / Edmonton, AB (or) Toronto / Thunder Bay, ON.

Reporting to the Site Supervisor (Substation Construction), the role of Foreman is to oversee on-site construction activities and lead on-site crew while ensuring project construction is executed effectively and safely. The Foreman is also responsible for tracking any changes or field issues as they arise and will be the main point of contact for the Field staff / crew.

Please Note : This is a Field based position and must be able to accommodate multiple shift requirements based on Project Schedules

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all site activities and crew members (up to 5-20 people)
  • Ensure compliance with Valard’s safety Policies and Procedures
  • Complete daily paperwork relating to jobsite, including timesheets, field reports, etc.
  • Conduct Equipment reviews and scheduling.
  • Coach and mentor employees to develop technical skills and on Valard’s safety policies and procedure
  • Ensure compliance with project procedures as well as safety program requirements and construction quality practices
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere within the group as well as Client relations when interacting with the Client
  • Address any crew issues / Conflicts with Site Supervisor as they arise
  • Work with on-site Safety Advisor to address any safety concerns brought forth by crews and or Client
  • Manage Material deliveries and inventorying of Materials as they are received on site, identifying any potential risks
  • Ensure that the crews are following the Valard Quality Management Plan and that the work is being completed efficiently and effectively
  • Ensure that all Valard’s Equipment and tools are being used in a safe and professional manner (tools are accounted for daily, any defective tools and equipment are tagged out of service and replaced and or repaired prior to using again)
  • Work with Site Supervisor to understand the full scope of the project to identify changes that could directly impact cost and schedule

Requirements

  • Journeyman designation in a related trade (Power System Electrician / Construction Electrician / PowerLine Tech)
  • 5+ years of experience in the construction industry
  • Proven Experience in medium to high-voltage substation construction considered an asset
  • A combination of education and experience may also be considered
  • Demonstrated ability to Manage Medium sized work groups safely and efficiently
  • Knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, project scheduling, cost and quality control
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
