This position is responsible for maintaining fleet of locomotives to ensure the company’s ability to serve the customer and provide reliable equipment for employees.

Our Locomotive Foreman provide oversite and support to our locomotive mechanics and machinists. They ensure Railserve policies and procedures are implemented and effectively executed in all aspects of work performed. They provide guidance on best practices and they strengthen stakeholder relationships through understanding of customer businesses and the clearing of road blocks to success

Ii. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop and model a Safety First Culture by maintaining a safe working environment. Work with locomotive mechanics to ensure all employees understand and embrace safety and compliance rules. Ensure hazardous conditions are corrected promptly and works toward eliminating employee injuries. Enforce industrial hygiene and environmental policies and programs.
  • Manage resources to budget; strategically review staffing and resources to customer needs and make recommendations to Locomotive Repair Office Manager and Sr. Manager, Quality Assurance for appropriate organization, staff competency, procurement, fleet and asset changes
  • Hold frequent performance and development discussions, identify areas for growth, assign accountability of development and goals to employees, and reinforce desired behaviors
  • Maintains a positive relationship with the customer by reviewing performance trends at customer sites; hold meetings with site and customer to identify opportunities, create action plans and integrate.
  • Understand on-site skills levels and work with Site Leaders to ensure appropriate competency mix, training and development opportunities
  • Fully understand Marmon Onsite offerings. Identify and recommend new services or assets as required to best serve customers and continued growth
  • Prioritize required preventative maintenance, ad hoc repairs and emergency repairs within service level agreements to ensure customer production up-time
  • Coordinate with customers and office staff to effectively plan and schedule locomotive maintenance and repairs
  • Coordinate and direct personnel for all locomotive maintenance and repairs performed in shop and field. Monitors production levels and quality standards of work performed. Performs scheduled and emergency maintenance on all locomotives in a cost-effective manner.
  • Identify and plan for locomotive mechanic upskilling and training to support mechanic apprentice program
  • Maintain proper records (preventative maintenance sheets, invoices, shipping documents, expense reports, inventory).
  • Records and updates work order and work time details on prescribed forms and in various computer systems (AMIS, WORD, EXCEL, EMAIL, SERVICE BOX, BIS) in accordance with established procedures.
  • Conducts safety assessments and audits on teams, equipment and facility according to a frequency determined by the Corporate Safety Department.
  • Suggests and /or implements administrative or engineering controls to abate or minimize safety hazards. Implementation will require appropriate approvals.
  • Performs minor and major repairs, servicing, and up fitting on locomotives
  • Required to perform duties in-shop, outside and at field locations as required.

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Associate degree or equivalent from two –year college or technical school preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have 18+ months of extensive mechanical experience, electrical experience preferred.
  • 18-24 months supervisory/leadership experience in scheduling, planning and directing hourly team preferred
  • Must have valid Driver’s license.
  • Must be able to operate cutting torch and electrical welder

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with the typical problems that occur in rail car switching.

  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be willing and able to travel frequently (up to 80%) to company and/or customer locations to perform work on locomotives. Drive highways in trucks weighing over 10,000 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $66,000-$89,000 per year

Pay scale will consider mechanical knowledge and leadership experience.
