Under the direction of the Director of Resident Care or designate at Mon Sheong Paul Woo Long Term Care Centre, the Foot Care Nurse will provide basic nursing skills in foot care and have membership in the Skin and Wound Care Committee.
Main Duties:
- Review individual resident’s medical and foot care history
- Assess and identify skin and foot care conditions, including corns, calluses, warts, ulcers, hallux valgus, nail changes, infection, and make referral of invasive work to Chiropodist or Podiatrist as needed, for:
- All new admissions
- Change of foot conditions
- Schedule and perform basic nail care and skin care, callus care and management of corns for residents.
- Create documentation in accordance with standards and regulations of Long Term Care Homes Act and Home’s policies
- Provide input for purchasing of skin and foot care supplies and devices.
- Coordinate and conduct health education on foot care to resident/family/staff.
- Participate in quality improvement programs related to skin and foot care.
- Develop, review and evaluate Foot Care Program annually and as required.
Qualifications:
- Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Possession of valid CPR (Health Care Provider Level C) and First Aid certificates.
- Minimum of one year experience in geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care preferred
- Completion of a foot care course from a recognized educational institute is desirable
- Willing to work shift duties at a rotation basis.
- Ability to discern relevant information to make effective judgment and decisions to manage skin and foot care.
- Adhere to professional competences, i.e. caring and respectful behavior, therapeutic relationship, clinical skills and knowledge, strong assessment skills, communication skills, conflict management skills and organization skills.
- Proficiency in oral and written English; ability to speak Cantonese/Mandarin would be preferred.
