Job description

Employment Type : Regular Part-time

Schedule : Friday to Monday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Reporting to : Food Services Manager

Reporting to the Food Services Manager, the Food Services Worker is responsible as part of a team to assist with preparing meals for guests. The Food Services Worker will ensure all food deliveries from suppliers and donations are received, sorted, and stored efficiently. Maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and food service areas is also part of this role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Oversee the delivery of a healthy and nutritious meal program and create menus that match the budget and available donations.
  • Receive, verify, store all purchased food and kitchen items.
  • Receive donated goods, sort, and transfer to appropriate areas.
  • Oversee stored food rotation.
  • Keep all food inventories up to date.
  • Track statistics such as temperature audits, serving statistics, meals served, and other relevant data.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen (floors, countertops, walls, and other areas).
  • Work in dish pit to clean cookware and dishes.
  • Work alongside volunteers, both individuals and groups.
  • Greet and welcome all donors in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Follow the Environmental Health Services Guidelines regarding how food is prepared, handled, and stored.
  • Maintain and abide by all Health & Safety standards and protocols, including completing a report for all incidents, including near misses, in a timely manner.
  • Pickup food if required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Valid Food Safe course certificate.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience working in the Food Service industry preferred.
  • Experience with menu planning, large quantity cooking, and working with donated goods is an asset.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Ability to work with a team consisting of paid staff, volunteers, and guests.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts as they arise.
  • Ability to respect and adhere to boundaries and policies in relation to coworkers, volunteers, and guests.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Fast-paced, challenging work environment.
  • Physical effort: moderate to significant amounts of walking, climbing, standing, sitting, lifting, and carrying (must be able to lift up to 25 to 50 pounds).
  • Mental effort: position often requires substantial mental effort to analyze information and problem-solve.
  • Daily interactions with colleagues and guests required.
  • Employees should be aware that many clients may experience difficulties or impairments, which could result in threats, discriminatory statements, insults, or unpredictable behavior, including aggression. Training on how to respond is provided.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, employees are required to sign an agreement respecting our Statement of Faith.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis, other than current employer.
  • A satisfactory employment background check and vulnerable sector search are required.
