Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience in food service (retirement, LTC, healthcare, or hospitality).
  • At least one year of front-of-house and customer service experience.
  • Post-secondary diploma in Food & Beverage Management or equivalent; chef qualifications and Food Service Supervisor certification preferred.
  • CSNM (Canadian Society of Nutrition Management) degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of daily and special event menus that meet individual dietary needs.
  • Foster strong relationships with residents and families to enhance satisfaction and resolve concerns.
  • Supervise and develop food services staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, optimize purchasing, and monitor food and labour costs.
  • Ensure compliance with Chartwell’s policies and health regulations.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and corporate partners to maintain high standards of food service.
  • Serve as a key member of the management team, contributing to strategic decisions and operational success.
  • Rotate as the Manager on Duty for weekend coverage as needed.

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about creating exceptional dining experiences for seniors? As a Food Service Manager at Chartwell, you will lead a dedicated team to deliver high-quality meals and outstanding service. In this role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing food services operations, menu planning, team management, and compliance with food safety standards—all to ensure our residents enjoy every meal in a warm and welcoming environment.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience in food service (retirement, LTC, healthcare, or hospitality)

  • Highly organized with strong time management abilities
  • Experience with budgeting, purchasing, and scheduling
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations, special diets, and local suppliers is an asset
  • Familiarity with the local community and supplier networks is beneficial
  • Valid Driver’s License, or reliable means of transportation

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends
  • Must be prepared to respond to emergency situations
  • Some local travel may be required
  • Comfort using AI and other digital platform systems and tools to support daily work
