Job summary

The Mustard Seed in Red Deer is seeking a Food Services Driver to coordinate pickup and delivery of donations and school meals. Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor, you will represent The Mustard Seed with donors and partners in the community. This full‑time, on‑site role requires driving experience, physical ability to lift 50 lbs, and a passion for ending homelessness.

Hours vary (typically weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) with occasional weekends; comprehensive training provided.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years driving experience in a professional capacity.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to professionally represent The Mustard Seed to community and business partners.
  • Passion for ending homelessness and reducing poverty in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up food donations from local partners/donors and deliver to various locations.
  • Pick up food/transfers from Seed locations and other agencies as required.
  • Ensure the safe and timely delivery of school lunches to required schools in Red Deer and surrounding Rural areas.
  • Connect with community members, donors, school employees, etc., and act as a positive representative of The Mustard Seed (TMS).
  • Sort donations according to guidelines and maintain vehicle cleanliness for daily readiness.
  • Coordinate with Facilities Team for regular vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist the Food Services Team with tasks as required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor, the Food Services Driver is responsible for coordinating and facilitating pick up and delivery of donations and supplies from local suppliers and donors for The Mustard Seed Red Deer. They will connect with donors and represent The Mustard Seed at all interactions. This role will also deliver school lunches to local schools in and the surrounding rural areas of Red Deer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • P ick up food donations from local community partners/donors and deliver to various locations
  • Pick up food/transfers from Seed locations and other agencies as required
  • Ensure the safe and timely delivery of school lunches to required schools in Red Deer, and surrounding Rural areas as needed
  • Connect with community members, donors, school employees etc., and act as a positive representative of TMS
  • Sort donations according to given guidelines
  • Maintain the cleanliness of The Seed vehicle (s) so it is in a daily state of readiness for duty
  • Follow the driving procedures and policies of TMS in house, and out in the community
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Team and Food Services Supervisor in arranging regular repair and maintenance of TMS vehicle
  • Assist the Food Services Team with tasks as required
  • Other duties as may be assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Minimum 3 years driving experience in a professional capacity
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to professionally represent TMS to community and business partners
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly through the day to accomplish regular loading and unloading of the vehicle
  • Passion for ending homelessness and reducing poverty in our community

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Highly involved role requiring substantial to concentrated physical effort at times
  • Physical requirements include but are not limited to driving, lifting, carrying, walking, regular loading and unloading of the vehicle
  • Driving and working in outside conditions – cold, rain, snow, heat
  • Working in freezer and cooler to organize and put items away
  • May work in challenging situations or conditions, must be able to calmly navigate unpredictable occurrences
  • Moderate to significant mental effort. Daily interaction with team members, volunteers, suppliers, donors and other partners
  • Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person This may in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive
  • Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • An Employment Background Check is required for all positions at The Mustard Seed

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

This position requires the use of a company vehicle. Candidate must have and maintain valid driver’s licence and will need to consent to a driver’s abstract request.
