Job summary

Selkirk College is seeking a part-time, 80% position in the College Cafeterias to support kitchen and cashier duties under the Ancillary Services Assistant Manager.

The role requires providing courteous customer service, preparing meals and beverages, setting up for events, and maintaining a clean, hygienic cafeteria environment. Valid Food Safe Level I and WHMIS are preferred; Serving It Right is an asset.

Qualifications

• High school graduation
• Minimum of one year related food service and banquet experience
• Serving It Right Certification would be considered an asset
• Food Safe Level I
• WHMIS certification

Responsibilities

• Cashier duties
• Courteous and efficient customer service
• Replenishing and maintaining salad bar, soup pots, coolers, and coffee bar
• Making sandwiches, wraps, pizza, etc., and baked goods
• Short order line services and event setup/cleanup
• Event setup, servicing and cleanup
• Operate kitchen equipment as required
• General cleaning duties including dishwasher operation
• Maintain food service area and cafeteria hygiene
• Provide laundry services for the cafeteria and hand wash equipment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Job description

Reporting to the Ancillary Services Assistant Manager, and utilizing a service excellence approach, the successful candidate will be responsible for kitchen and cashier duties for the College Cafeterias.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for providing cashier duties
• Providing courteous and efficient customer service
• Replenishing and maintaining salad bar, soup pots, coolers, and preparing and maintaining coffee bar
• Making sandwiches, wraps, pizza, etc., and baked goods
• Providing short order line services as well as setting up/cleaning up for special events
• Setting up, servicing and cleaning up for events
• Operating kitchen equipment as required
• Performing general cleaning duties including:
• Setting up, operating and cleaning dishwasher
• Maintaining food service area and cafeteria in an orderly and hygienic manner
• Providing laundry services for the cafeteria; and hand washing kitchen equipment/utensils as required
• Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor

This is a temporary, part-time (80%) sessional position commencing as soon as possible and ending December 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension/or upon the return of the incumbent. The salary is pay grade4 - $28.14 per hour - in accordance with the PPWC Collective Agreement.
