Detailed Overview

This role involves overseeing department activities related to the distribution and service of food to residents and clients, including supervising designated staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff by scheduling and coordinating work assignments, evaluating performance with the Manager, and determining training needs.
  • Oversee food service tray line to ensure standards of appearance, quality, and portion control are met; supervise meal preparation, portioning, and serving, including loading and distribution to designated sites.
  • Maintain and update tray tickets manually and via computer; assist in printing and highlighting meal runs, tray tickets, and bursting of tray tickets.
  • Manage relief staff scheduling according to departmental guidelines and collective agreements; handle staff calls regarding illness or absences; process vacation and leave requests for managerial approval.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies such as paper, chemicals, dish towels, china, and silverware; order food supplies and nutritional supplements.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance Program through activities like tray audits, sanitation checks, temperature recordings, and waste audits; discuss findings with the Manager and assign duties accordingly.
  • Ensure safety and sanitation standards are met by checking equipment, maintaining sanitary work areas, and ensuring proper food storage and temperature control.
  • Monitor and suggest improvements for job routines; contribute to updating job descriptions and responsibilities.
  • Keep computerized records such as staffing schedules and leave records up to date.
  • Record maintenance needs in the Maintenance Log Book and coordinate repairs.
  • Assist with staff attendance programs and participate in interviews and record-keeping.
  • Contribute to policy and procedure updates and development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    Graduation from a recognized two-year Food Service Supervision program plus one year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Current Food Safe Level II certificate.
