Job summary

Join Sodexo as a Food Service Manager at our Corrections client site in Red Deer, Alberta, launching Sep 2026. Lead daily food production, manage menus, purchasing and costs while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. Red Seal is mandatory and security clearance is required for correctional facility work.

Salary is CAD 65,000–75,000 yearly. You will supervise the kitchen team, optimize operations, and foster relationships with vendors and clients.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Certification is mandatory.
• Criminal Record Check and security clearance requirements must be met.
• 3–5 years of chef leadership experience.
• Valid Food Handlers Certificate (Alberta) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily food production operations in a large institutional setting.
• Manage menu planning, purchasing, inventory, and cost control.
• Lead and develop kitchen staff, including union-related responsibilities.

How You’ll MakeanImpact:

• Manage daily operations of food production including menu planning, purchasing/ordering, inventory, food preparation, and cost management within a large institutional environment (Campus or Healthcare) food production
• Union management experience is a very strong asset
• Manage financials for the food program including labour cost, food cost, inventory, equipment and materials
• Supervise, mentor, and monitor kitchen team and evaluate performance to ensure a high level of productivity and the best use of team member capabilities
• Establish operating standards, implement quality improvements
• Oversee catering functions and special events for internal and external clients/ groups
• Establish and maintain business relationships with vendors and suppliers
• Promote and assist in the marketing of the food program to both internal and external audiences
• Constant analysis of the culinary program; identifying efficiencies and areas of opportunity within our culinary operations
• Meet and collaborate with client initiatives to progress agreed upon efforts and provide feedback
• Ensure compliance of all Company standards and Provincial/Federal Legislation
• Ensure compliance to all Food Safety, Food System Management and HACCP Policies and Procedures

What You’ll Need toSucceed:

• Red Seal Certification is mandatory
• Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC), Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), and Provincial Government Security Clearance.Must be eligible to obtain and maintain the required security clearance and complete all required background screening requirements to work in a correctional facility.
• 3 - 5years’ experience in Chef leadership role
• Previous University, College or Private School environment experiencean asset
• Knowledge in the understanding and preparation of a variety of cuisines is an asset
• Knowledge of industry standards and Legislative Policies and Procedures
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced, team-centric and safety driven environment
• Proven organizational skills and strong computer capabilities including Microsoft Office use
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with customers, clients and staff at all levels
• Ability to work, problem solve and provide solutions independently
• Experience in sustainable and plant-based menu preparation is an asset
• Genuine desire to provide customer service experiences beyond expectations
• Valid Food Handlers Certificate (Level 2, Advanced, etc.) issued in accordance with the Alberta Food Regulation, or an equivalent certification recognized by the Minister.
