Job description

As a dedicated member of the Nutrition and Food Services (NFS) team, you have the opportunity to have a significant role in providing nutritious, healthy, high quality meal service to patients, residents, and the community. Make a significant impact on patient and resident focused health care as a Nutrition Food Service Worker. This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident and customer experience. Under the general supervision of a Supervisor, you will be responsible to use strong customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to prepare, handle, portion and package food and beverages, assemble trays. Serve meals in a dining room setting, provide patient meal delivery and pick up. Order and put away unit supplies. Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment, adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines. Complete other food service duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy, work under pressure in high stress situations. Communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments on matters related to patient meals, snacks, nourishment supplies. Work as an effective, professional team member. Demonstrate a patient first approach. Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Food Safe Certificate or equivalent. Experience in operating a computer (Microsoft Office programs or other computer programs). Able to provide two work related references from direct report or manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

Food/Customer service experience. Experience in inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates & minimizing waste, utilizing First In, First Out. Experience in a hospital or long term care environment. Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment. WHIMIS training.
