Job description

Position Overview:
The Quality Assurance Lead is responsible for managing and executing all aspects of our QA program to ensure our products meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role works cross-functionally with production, packaging, R&D, and regulatory teams to uphold Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), support audits, and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily QA activities, including in-process inspections, product testing, and sanitation verification.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain QA protocols and SOPs in compliance with CFIA, Health Canada, and HACCP requirements.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and lead corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues.
  • Train and support staff on quality standards, documentation, and GMP.
  • Monitor production records, batch sheets, and traceability systems.
  • Lead internal audits and assist with third-party inspections.
  • Collaborate with R&D and operations on new product quality validations.
  • Maintain ownership over SOPs and ensure batch records are accurate and complete; hold production teams accountable for adherence.
  • Work directly with the organic certification body to maintain certification requirements and documentation.
  • Ensure cleaning and sanitation procedures are adequate and regularly monitored.
  • Support occasional production activities as required
  • Perform label reviews and develop product specifications to ensure compliance and accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of QA/QC experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of food safety systems, GMP, and regulatory standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with HACCP certification, traceability, and document control systems is a plus.
