Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Food Bank Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the food bank service and the milk program, as well as developing and distributing nutritional resources throughout the community. This role plays an essential part in ensuring food security and promoting healthy eating within the community.

POSITION DUTIES:

  1. Operational Management: Establish hours of operation for the food bank and ensure the efficient handling of all administrative functions.
  2. Inventory Control: Monitor food and supply levels, ensuring that necessary items are reordered to maintain adequate stock.
  3. Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for the food bank and milk programs.
  4. Food Handling: Ensure all food products are stored, handled, and distributed in compliance with food safety standards and nutritional guidelines, including Canada’s Food Guide.
  5. Nutritional Resources Development: Work collaboratively to develop and distribute educational nutritional information to community members through various mediums.
  6. Program Promotion: Plan and implement community-based campaigns to encourage healthy eating and raise awareness about the Food Bank and Milk Programs.
  7. Community Collaboration: Partner with various community groups, including the School Nutrition Coordinator, to enhance the effectiveness of community wellness initiatives.
  8. Record Keeping: Ensure all food bank resource applications are processed in a timely manner and maintain data collection processes regarding the number of individuals served and resources distributed.
  9. Policy Development: Assist in the development and implementation of policies related to the Food Bank and Milk Programs.
  10. Program Evaluation: Participate in program evaluation and provide insights to improve the effectiveness of the service.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Preference will be given to members or residents of Sagamok Anishnawbek.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for work-related tasks.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Confidentiality agreement required.
  • A criminal record check is required prior to employment.
  • The position is subject to a six-month probation period.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Academic & Experiential:

  • Post-secondary diploma in food preparation or a related program from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum two years of relevant work experience in food preparation, safety, and serving.
  • Certification in Safe Food Handling.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Understanding of and respect for Anishnawbek history, culture, and values.
  • Ability to speak and understand Ojibwe is a definite asset.
  • Familiarity with challenges faced by aging individuals and those with disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills to relate effectively with diverse community members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and general computer skills.
