Position Purpose: The Barback at Sant Ambroeus Southampton will assist the bartender with steps of service and work in a team environment to quickly stock/restock beer, wine, liquor, and non-alcoholic beverages; china, glassware, and silverware; paper products, garnishes, and anything else needed by the bar team to provide service.

*Must be available to work from May through Columbus Day 2025

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Assist in clearing the bar counter to ensure they remain free of dirty/empty items.
  • Retrieve bread/cheese/pepper/salt for bar diners so bartender can stay stationed behind the bar.
  • Refill guests’ water glasses as needed.
  • Assist in bussing/support duties at the bar, at the direction of management, to ensure that all guests receive excellent service regardless of business volume.
  • Acknowledge all guests with eye contact and a smile, being able to answer questions when able – if not, follow through to find the appropriate employee to respond to guest requests.
  • Confirm and stock pars for all liquor, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages at the start of the shift (see separate par sheet) and replenish as needed throughout the service and at the end of the shift.
  • Keep the bar stocked with appropriate glassware, silverware, and plates to serve the guests.
  • Assist bartenders in replenishing/cutting any beverage garnishes needed for cocktails.
  • Clean/wipe down bar counter and refrigerators and coolers at the bar every night and as needed.
  • Keep the bar organized and tidy.
  • Replenish coffee and milk products for the coffee area at the bar.
  • Sort and remove trash from the bar area, placing it in designated areas in the back of the kitchen.
  • Assist in removing bar mats, espresso dump box, and drip coffee urns.
  • Conduct thorough breakdown and cleaning of the bar area at the close of shift.
  • Clean up any broken glass or spills throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work efficiently, maximizing each trip to/from the bar.
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the bar and prioritize accordingly.
  • Ability to learn and remember details about our products and be able to use that knowledge to stock the correct items.
  • The ability to work as part of a team, work quickly, and follow directions.
  • Ability to communicate and understand direction in English to ensure safety in the workplace. Ability to understand, respond, and engage with co-workers, managers, and guests in English.
  • Very basic food handling, preparation, and cleaning skills are welcomed.
  • Time management and ability to work under pressure to manage a high volume of production.
  • Active listening and learning skills.
  • Reading and speaking comprehension skills.
  • Discipline to follow set standards.
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
