Job summary

Why join our navigation systems design group team?

As a FMS Systems Engineer, you will work within the navigation systems design group and be responsible for conducting and/or directing systems engineering activities related to the design and development of Flight Management Systems.

The systems engineer will participate in all aspects of the design and development of avionics functions and aircraft modernization projects. The role involves close collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and customer representatives. CMC provides training as well as opportunities for career growth and development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate customer requests and develop technical responses and solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Interface with other system designers (team members and contractors) and customer representatives to assess the impact of proposed concepts and recommend solutions to meet cost, schedule, and performance requirements.
  • Understand the problems related to the design of avionic systems, ensure system synthesis, and design a functional system.
  • Follow up with hardware and software development teams.
  • Ensure the validation and verification of principles and translate functional design into solutions for hardware and software development.
  • Contribute to all phases of the system development life cycle, including requirements analysis and monitoring, design, development, testing, and deployment.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Prior experience in FMS system design or development and broad knowledge of FMS functions.
  • Knowledge of main FMS functions (ARINC 702A standard), as well as RNP and FANS Datalink concepts.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations (FAA AC20-138, FAA TSO-C115, RTCA DO-236/283, EASA CS-ACNS).
  • Familiarity with C and C++ development languages.
  • Experience with model‑based development tools (Rhapsody, Simulink, SCADE).
  • Knowledge of Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) standards.
  • Aircraft pilot experience is an asset.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hold a or equivalent Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical, aerospace, or computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • Possess at least five (5) years of relevant experience in the development, validation, and/or verification of commercial or military avionics systems (FMS, sensors, displays, autopilot, MCDU, etc.).
  • Demonstrate experience developing real‑time embedded systems, including hardware/software integration.
  • Have good knowledge of civil and military avionics standards and practices, including DO-178 (or equivalent), MIL-STD-1553, and ARINC 429.
  • Possess effective communication skills, initiative, and the ability to coordinate issue resolution and work within a team.
