Job summary

Klinic Community Health is seeking a Floor Medical Assistant to welcome clients, register and direct them to exam rooms, and assist with maintaining clean, welcoming spaces within our Winnipeg clinic.

Applicants should have strong communication, teamwork, and confidentiality skills, plus healthcare experience and knowledge of EMR systems. CPR certification is preferred. This role supports a diverse community and offers a day/evening/weekend shift pattern.

Qualifications

  • High school education required.
  • Unit Clerk or Medical Office Assistant course preferred.
  • CPR/BLS certificate preferred or available.
  • Two years of healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet clients arriving for appointments and verify information.
  • Register clients and direct to appropriate exam rooms or labs.
  • Maintain cleanliness of waiting areas and exam rooms; restock supplies.
  • Support with general clerical tasks and confidential handling of information.

Location: Winnipeg. Site: Klinic Community Health. Work Location: Klinic Community Health. FTE: 1.0. Anticipated Shift: Days; Evenings; Weekends. Annual Base Hours: 2080.

The Floor Medical Assistant position supports Klinic by providing a warm and inviting environment for clients and community members that utilize our services. You will ensure that everyone who visits feels comfortable and safe. As the Floor Medical Assistant you will greet clients arriving for their appointments, register and or verify information, direct them to the appropriate exam room/lab for their visit and support with maintaining the cleanliness of the waiting area for health services as well as the exam rooms (including restocking supplies)

Applicants must have an understanding and commitment to Klinics’ mission, vision and values as well as an understanding of and commitment to the work of reconciliation, anti-racism and anti-oppression.

Education
  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Successful completion of a Unit Clerk Course and/or a Medical Office Assistant Course required.
  • Basic Life Support recognized by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (i.e., CPR) provide certificate if it is made available.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Special Training
  • Cultural Safety preferred
  • Mental Health First Aid preferred
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training preferred
Experience
  • A minimum of two years related healthcare experience preferred.
  • Experience in Email and computerized calendars required.
  • Working knowledge of electronic medical records preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience maintaining medical records and filing systems, compiling statistics and processing personal health information.
  • Switchboard/receptionist experience.
  • Keyboarding Speed of 40 wpm required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work as a team member and form respectful relationships with team members, other professionals, clients and the community.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent command of the English language (both oral and written).
  • Knowledge of other languages especially indigenous languages considered an asset.
  • Respectful of diversity and values diverse perspectives and ideas.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking for favorable client results.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability through embracing and applying new practices to accomplish goals and solve problems.
  • Knowledgeable in the fundamentals of Service Excellence, Customer Service and Cultural Safety.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage private and confidential information.
  • Ability to plan and organize a heavy workload, under pressure, to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal supervision and take initiative through action that favorably influences events.

SALARY RANGE $21.081- $24.364 per hour
