Job description

Job Type: Full-time, in-person

Location: Fisherman’s Market, Richmond Yards, Halifax, NS

Reports To: Retail Supervisor

Help Create an Exceptional Seafood Shopping Experience

Fisherman’s Market - Richmond Yards brings together a state-of-the-art seafood market, fresh grab-and-go offerings and Monte’s Lunch, our seafood-forward dining experience.

We are looking for a proactive, hands-on Retail Floor Lead to support the day-to-day operations of our retail floor. Working closely with the Retail Supervisor and store team, you will help keep the floor running smoothly, maintain high standards for product presentation and food safety, and ensure customers receive friendly, knowledgeable service.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in keeping things organized, and is ready to take on a leadership role in a fast-paced retail environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Support daily retail floor operations by coordinating tasks, workflow and priorities with the Retail Supervisor.
  • Help guide team members throughout the day, lead by example and support a positive, collaborative work environment.
  • Assist with new-hire orientation, team training and reinforcing company policies, customer service expectations and food safety practices.
  • Maintain attractive, well-stocked displays, ensuring products are properly labeled, priced and presented.
  • Support receiving, inventory counts, stock rotation using FIFO, and monitoring product quality and availability.
  • Help track product shortages, waste and shrink, and communicate inventory or sales-related concerns to management.
  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service, helping customers choose seafood and offering guidance on cuts, preparation and cooking methods.
  • Maintain clean and organized counters, displays, equipment and work areas in accordance with sanitation and food safety requirements.
  • Assist with temperature monitoring and ensure seafood is handled and stored appropriately.
  • Monitor coolers, freezers, scales and other equipment, reporting maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Communicate regularly with the Retail Supervisor, Store Manager and other departments to support smooth store operations.
  • Take initiative, identify opportunities for improvement and perform other duties as needed.
What You Bring
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-first approach.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A proactive attitude and the confidence to support and guide team members.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Dependability, flexibility and a willingness to learn.
  • Previous retail, seafood, food service or team leadership experience is an asset.
  • WHMIS training is an asset, or a willingness to obtain it.

Seafood experience is an asset, but a willingness to learn, strong customer service skills and the ability to lead by example are what matter most.

Working Environment
  • Full availability to work weekends is required.
  • Work hours may vary based on business needs and store operations.
  • A hands-on role involving prolonged standing, bending, crouching, kneeling and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in wet and cold environments.
  • Regular handling of fresh and frozen seafood products.
Why Join Us?
  • Competitive pay: $19.75 per hour.
  • Group benefits: 50/50 cost-shared medical and dental coverage.
  • Virtual care: Access to TELUS Virtual Care services.
  • Employee discount: Enjoy savings on eligible store purchases.
  • Convenience: On-site parking.
  • Growth opportunities: Develop your retail operations and leadership skills within an established Atlantic Canadian seafood business.
  • A hands-on role: Make a direct contribution to customer experience, team performance and the success of our Richmond Yards location.

If you enjoy working with people, take pride in delivering great customer service and are ready to help lead a busy retail floor, we’d love to hear from you.
