Job description

PCA Float Pool - 36 Hour Nights with weekend and holiday commitment.

The Patient Care Assistant II functions as a member of the patient care team, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The role involves performing clinical tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, simple dressings, aseptic techniques, and responding to emergencies with Heartsaver CPR and AED skills. The PCA II supports patient and family needs and contributes to efficient unit operation, practicing Patient and Family Centered Care.

Essential Functions
  1. Provision of a Safe Environment
  2. Anticipates and addresses patient safety risks, maintaining proper bed height, using side rails and alarms, providing patient checks, assisting with ambulation, and following restraint policies under RN supervision.
  3. Provides 1:1 patient monitoring for at-risk patients, follows infection control protocols, and uses proper body mechanics.

  2. Supports the hospital's mission and values, respects diversity, maintains confidentiality, collaborates with staff, and adheres to dress code including visible ID badge.

  2. Organizes time effectively, assists colleagues, adapts to unit needs, and communicates with the Charge Nurse regarding breaks and visibility.

  2. Follows policies, understands emergency codes, uses hospital email, participates in meetings, maintains communication with RN, and documents patient data accurately.

  2. Fosters teamwork in patient care.

  2. Addresses comfort and information needs, provides basic care instructions, and assists with patient orientation and errands.

  2. Participates in quality programs, reports concerns.
  1. Patient Care
  2. Performs comprehensive patient care tasks including admission, discharge, personal care, vital signs, specimen collection, documentation, and emergency response, as delegated by RN.
Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent required. No experience in lieu of degree accepted.

Licenses and Credentials

Nursing Assistant certification from NCCT required.

Experience

Knowledge and skills include certification, clinical training, communication, basic math, medical terminology, computer skills, physical ability, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and stress management.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and other physical activities as detailed.
