Job summary

Western Community College in Abbotsford, BC, seeks a certified flight instructor to teach student pilots in procedures, navigation, radio procedures and flying regulations. You will monitor engine and aircraft systems during flight, train licenced pilots for additional certification, and prepare flight evaluation reports.

Required licenses include Commercial Pilot Licence - fixed wing, Transport Canada flight instructor rating, Airline Transport Licence - fixed wing, and Restricted

Qualifications

  • Commercial pilot licence with fixed-wing rating required.
  • TC flight instructor rating required.
  • Airline transport licence fix wing a plus.
  • Restricted radiotelephone operator licence required.
  • Experience as flight instructor is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct student pilots in procedures and techniques of flying aircraft and ground-school subjects.
  • Monitor operation of engine and aircraft systems during flight.
  • Train licenced pilots for additional certification.
  • Train and prepare pilots for examination.
  • Coordinate flight activities with ground crews and air-traffic control, inform crew members of flight and test procedures and direct activities of aircraft crew during flights.
  • Conduct pre-flight inspection of aircraft and check passenger and cargo distribution to ensure weight and balance specifications are met.
  • Contact control towers for takeoff clearances, arrival instructions and other information.
  • Maintain communications with flight dispatchers and weather forecasters and respond to and report in-flight emergencies and malfunctions.
  • Prepare flight evaluation reports
