Tasks

  • Analyze environmental conditions to determine the most desirable and economic route of flight
  • Assess fuel capacity and cargo loads according to the type of aircraft, distance of flight, weather conditions and other requirements
  • Authorize airline flights over assigned routes
  • Provide pilots with information essential to aviation safety
  • Co-sign flight authorization with aircraft captain
  • Check flight plans for completeness and accuracy
  • Delay or cancel flight if conditions warrant
  • Relay information to pilots in flight
  • Prepare and maintain flight plans, flight logs and other reports
  • Brief flight crew before takeoff
  • Respond to radio calls from aircraft preparing for takeoff or landing and supply information such as weather conditions, wind speed and direction and presence of local air traffic
