Job summary

Boart Longyear is hiring field mechanics based out of Haileybury, Ontario or Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. You will repair, troubleshoot and maintain drilling equipment used in Boart Longyear operations, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a Millwright or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Red Seal, a high school diploma and a 3–5 year apprenticeship, plus a valid driver’s license and basic safety qualifications. Knowledge of LM/Swick/Minecat/Kubota is a plus.

Qualifications

• Millwright or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Trade Certification (Red Seal).
• Completion of secondary school.
• Completion of three- to five-year apprenticeship program.
• Valid driver's license; provide driving record upon hire.
• Standard First Aid.
• Underground common core would be an asset.
• Basic Safety Orientation would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain drilling equipment and mobile support equipment.
• Inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
• Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine repair scope.
• Adjust equipment and replace defective parts, using hand and power tools.
• Test repaired equipment for proper performance and regulatory compliance.
• Lubricate and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
• Service Boart Longyear drilling equipment and related components.
• Coordinate work with other departments and plan schedules.
• Requisition parts, materials and supplies.
• Share methods to improve productivity.
• Experience with LM drills, Swick drills, Minecats and Kubotas is a plus.

Education

Millwright or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Trade Certification (Red Seal)

Secondary School Diploma

Three- to five-year apprenticeship program

Job description

We have several exciting opportunities available for field mechanics. Based out of our facility in Haileybury, Ontario or Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Opportunities are available to work in Northern Ontario, Northern British Columbia and the Yukon.

Hourly Wage

$36.60 - $49.20/hr

Position Responsibilities

Repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain drilling equipment and mobile support equipment used within the scope of Boart Longyear Drilling operations. This position will be located in Haileybury, Ontario.

Main duties

• Check for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
• Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine extent of repair required
• Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools
• Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets regulatory specifications
• Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment
• Perform repair work on all Boart Longyear Drilling equipment
• May service specialty attachments or components and maintain, adjust and repair such items
• Ensure standards for safe working conditions are observed
• Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other departments
• Requisition parts, materials and supplies
• Resolve work problems and recommend work measures to improve productivity
• Experience with LM drills, Swick drills, Minecats and Kubotas would be an asset

Employment requirements

• Millwright or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Trade Certification (Red Seal)
• Completion of secondary school is usually required
• Completion of three- to five-year apprenticeship program
• This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's license. The successful candidate would have to provide proof that s/he has a valid driver’s license upon being hired, by submitting a driver’s abstract to Human Resources
• Standard First Aid
• Underground common core would be an asset
• Basic Safety Orientation, an asset
• Schedule to be negotiated

Education and Experience:

Typically requires a High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3+ years of directly related experience.
