YOUR ROLE
The Fleet Maintenance Manager's role is to oversee the maintenance and repairs of fleet vehicles and equipment, scheduled for work in a timely, efficient, and effective manner. This ensures maximum availability for operational teams, compliance with regulations, and supports the department's growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Developing and implementing vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance programs.
- Directing a preventive maintenance program to minimize costs and maximize equipment usage.
- Overseeing safety and maintenance records of commercial trucks, chassis, and heavy equipment to ensure accuracy and currency.
- Planning, organizing, and directing work to meet objectives efficiently with personnel, facilities, and equipment.
- Managing department staff, including hiring, scheduling, performance management, discipline, and overtime authorization in collaboration with the General Manager.
- Communicating regularly with GM, Safety & Compliance, and dispatch regarding equipment status.
- Submitting regular reports on road calls, breakdowns, accidents, and performance.
- Administering activities related to purchasing workshop tools, repair supplies, parts, and accessories.
- Recommending adjustments to personnel, facilities, and equipment levels, and service levels.
- Administering testing and inspection programs to ensure quality, suitability, and compliance of vehicles, parts, and materials.
- Supervising mechanical maintenance and repair work on trucks and other motorized equipment used in transportation, hauling, and maintenance.
- Supervising vehicle maintenance and repair tasks such as engine overhauls, transmission overhauls, air conditioning repairs, differential overhauls, brake overhauls, electrical system repairs, and system replacements.
- Supervising inventory of parts and supplies, requisitioning needed items.
- Coordinating the flow of vehicles awaiting maintenance or repairs.
- Supervising the use and interpretation of onboard computer data, diagnosing complex vehicle or equipment problems, and applying advanced repair techniques.
- Ensuring vehicle accident records are accurately maintained and investigated, with forms submitted to the Safety & Compliance Officer.
- Managing processes for damage estimates and repairs.
- Ensuring maximum fleet and plant availability for operational teams.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE
- Bilingual in English and French required.
- 5-7 years of managerial experience managing a team of mechanics.
- Deep understanding of practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in motor vehicle and heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
- Experience with Diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment is an asset.
- Master mechanic license or certificate is an asset.
- Knowledge of operating and maintenance requirements of various heavy construction equipment is an asset.
