Job description

Impala Canada is the owner and operator of the Lac des Iles Mine, located 90 minutes northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario. In operation for 30+ years, the LDI Mine is one of only two known pure palladium sources in North America. Palladium contributes to a cleaner global environment, with its leading use being in catalytic converters that reduce harmful emissions from gas-powered and hybrid vehicles.

The LDI Mine features a unique ore body and modern infrastructure, including underground and surface mining and milling operations. The LDI Mine is in Robinson-Superior Treaty territory, and the land on which we operate is the traditional territory of the Anishnaabeg and the Métis. Impala Canada actively partners with local organizations, programs and events focused on healthcare, education and community development to help enhance the quality of life for all.

Job Description :

Reporting to the Fixed Plant Superintendent, the successful candidate will work a four (4) day on three (3) day off rotation, responsible for leading and directing the Fixed Plant Maintenance crews, while ensuring they work in a safe and productive manner at Lac des Iles Mine.

The responsibilities include :

  • The application of maintenance practices in alignment with Lac des Iles Mine business objectives
  • Maintenance strategies and production goals
  • Daily execution of maintenance activities on all fixed plant equipment
  • Implement and execute maintenance plans in a rapidly changing mining environment
  • Facilitates the safety of staff and the environment, while communicating on a regular basis about equipment performance including availability, reliability, repeated problems and cost
  • Works closely with the Planner and other Supervisors using a team approach to solve problems

Qualifications :

To be considered for this position, candidates must have :

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 7 years experience with industrial stationary equipment, preferably in mining
  • Minimum 2 years experience in Maintenance or Operations in a supervisory role
  • Underground common core would be an asset
  • Possess an aptitude for quickly learning and adapting to new computer programs
  • Possess superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others
  • Possess effective coaching, mentoring, delegating and communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license
