Job summary

MacDonald Steel Limited is seeking a Fitter Welder in Cambridge, ON, to weld and fit metal components for rugged forestry products. You will read blueprints, measure precisely, and work with minimal fixtures while maintaining safety.

The role includes an afternoon shift with a $3.00 per hour premium and opportunities for training and benefits. Ideal candidates have experience in both fitting and welding, can adapt to changing conditions, and work well in a team to meet production timelines.

Qualifications

  • Experience measuring and fabricating metal components without jigs.
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with welding specifications and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to determine welding requirements.
  • Measure and fabricate metal components using tools and equipment with minimal fixtures.
  • Select proper materials to weld components together.
  • Follow safety protocols and wear PPE.
  • Operate cranes to complete large welding jobs.
  • Ensure welding machines are calibrated correctly.
  • Inspect welds for quality and specifications.
  • Repair and rework welds as needed.
  • Communicate with supervisors to meet production schedules.

As aFitter Welder, you are responsible for welding metal components to form a final product that is dedicated to the rugged and challenging terrain of the forestry industry. To excel in this role, you will have experience in both fitting and welding metal components to produce high-quality fabricated products. Precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment are essential.

Location: 200 Avenue Road, Cambridge, ON

Dedicated Afternoon Shift: 2:30pm - 1:00am, Monday - Thursday

Shift Premium: $3.00 per hour for afternoons

Job Duties
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to determine welding requirements for prototypes and custom products
  • Measure and fabricate metal components accurately using various tools and equipment, with minimal or no jigs and fixtures
  • Ensure proper materials are selected for each job to weld together metal components
  • Follow safety protocols and wear prescribed personal protective equipment to prevent injuries
  • Operate lifting devices, such as cranes (overhead and/or jib), to complete large welding jobs
  • Ensure welding machines are properly calibrated
  • Inspect welds to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications
  • Repair and rework welds as needed
  • Communicate with supervisors to ensure production schedules are met
Skills & Experience:
  • Experience in both fitting and welding metal components
  • Adapt to a changing work environment, competing demands, and be able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events
  • Required to read and interpret welding blueprints, drawing specifications, procedures, and work instructions
  • Assembly welding tasks require collaboration with coworkers, effective communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to make sound decisions when working on projects that involve multiple team members
  • Physical requirements include standing, climbing, kneeling, and bending while welding for extended periods of time
  • Extreme temperature exposure to weather changes (heat)
