Pay Rate: $25 - $35 per hour (training); $17.67 per hour (floor rate). We also offer access to our superb sport, fitness, and recreational facilities.

The Position:
Reporting to the Senior Coordinator, Fitness & Wellness, the Fitness & Wellness Trainer will work closely with the Senior Coordinator to ensure delivery of quality personal training sessions by designing and leading members through accessible workout sessions to achieve their goals. The Fitness & Wellness Trainer will schedule and facilitate an equipment demonstration with all new members, and will identify members’ needs and goals, as well as recognize areas where other departments in the Centre can assist with the individual’s overall fitness and wellness journey.
The Fitness & Wellness Trainer will promote personal training, equipment demonstrations, and small group training, along with other program offerings at Abilities Centre. You will develop relationships and collaborate with other departments to identify participant pathways that align with member goals.
What You’ll Do:
- Instruct:
- You will promote and schedule personal training and equipment demonstrations.
- You will promote, schedule, record, and create customized personal training programs for clients.
- You will exercise creativity and innovation to assist the Senior Coordinator in the delivery of high-quality personal training and small group sessions.
- You will enhance member experience by keeping clients engaged and encouraged during personal training sessions.
- Support:
- You will support the Senior Coordinator in achieving monthly revenue targets by promoting programs such as personal training and small group sessions.
- You will collaborate with the Senior Coordinator and other staff to handle non-routine customer service requirements with diplomacy and tact.
- During floor shifts, you will monitor client activity in the HUR weight room, giving guidance and assistance to clients when needed.
- You will promote and inform Abilities Centre members about fitness programming, personal training, small group trainings, along with equipment demonstrations.
- You will attend staff meetings, professional development workshops and organizational-wide trainings.
- You will also assist with administrative activities, as needed by the Senior Coordinator, along with other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring:
- Education and Experience:
- You are attending or are a graduate of a university or college program in Kinesiology, Physical Education, or Fitness related field.
- You are required to have a valid Personal Training Certification from CSEP, CPTN, Can Fit-Pro, or similar association.
- Nutrition Certification, Senior Fitness, Active Aging, Heart Wise, or related certifications are an asset.
- You have more than one year’s experience teaching groups or personal training.
- Technical Skills and Knowledge:
- You have knowledge of inclusion, accessibility, and accommodations.
- You have strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- You are proficient in Microsoft 365 and have knowledge of ACTIVENet or similar recreation management software.
- Professional Skills:
- You are self-motivated, results-oriented, show great initiative, and are able to work independently without close supervision.
- You have a keen attention to detail and can manage multiple demands through well-developed organizational and time management skills.
- You are an effective team player with a positive attitude, interacting well with clients and fellow employees.
- You have good interpersonal and relationship-building skills demonstrating rapport with people of diverse backgrounds.
- You are dedicated to a customer experience that exceeds expectations.
- Administrative Requirements:
- You are required to have a current and clear criminal record check for the vulnerable sector.
- You are required to have a current and valid First Aid and CPR ‘C’ / AED certification.
- Availability:
- You are available to work weekdays, evenings, and weekends – you will have a consistent schedule to develop personal training clientele.
