Job description

The Fitness Manager is a key leadership position at TEN X TORONTO. Under the direction of the Fitness Director, he/she is required to manage, develop and implement fitness and wellness initiatives that engage both members and guests of Hotel X Toronto. The Fitness Manager will embrace and engage the membership to ensure that the needs, desires and expectations of TEN X TORONTO members and guests, along with Hotel X guests are consistently exceeded.

Expectations and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Fitness Director to oversee all aspects of day to day operations of the 10XTO Fitness Center.
  • Manage both the fitness center floor and 4 fitness studios to ensure that all health and safety needs are met.
  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training of fitness floor coaches, group fitness instructors and personal training staff.
  • Work with the Membership team to implement new member integration processes. Schedule and deliver new member orientation.
  • Increase Personal Training revenue and profitability through managing sales performance; sessions serviced growth; and quality of personal training experience.
  • Ability to motivate others to improve their overall fitness and health. Desire to help clients reach their health and fitness goals through proper cardiovascular, flexibility and resistance exercise.
  • Respond to all member issues concerning the group fitness classes and schedule.
  • Ensure all classes are covered and facilitate sub procedures to all instructors. Report class tracking numbers on a monthly basis to the Fitness Director.
  • Submit bi-weekly payroll to the Fitness Director in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate the implementation of new programming as it pertains to Group Fitness.
  • Provide seasonal inventory of all group fitness equipment to Fitness Director.
  • Maintain sign-in sheets and sub list, including emergency policy and procedures.
  • Address member and guest complaints and concerns.
  • Using the 10XTO app and club software to provide daily, weekly, and as needed to track trending and needs.
  • Provide leadership, support, motivation, and correction to fitness staff, with cross training for all departments as necessary.
  • Oversee a safe, professional, friendly and clean environment for members and guests.
  • Maintain a professional attire and demeanor at all times.
  • Participate in club and community events as needed.
  • Attend all 10XTO trainings and meetings, and ensure staff compliance with same.
  • Work cooperatively with other 10XTO departments in planning programs and club wide special events.
  • Participate in departmental and club training, staff meetings, supervisory conferences, committees and special events.
  • Develop innovative and creative member fitness programs, workshops and events.
  • Ability to step in to facilitate or sub Group Fitness and/or Personal Training sessions in emergency situations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Kinesiology or other Health Science or Hospitality Program.
  • Minimum 3 years of proven success in health and fitness/Hospitality operations with responsibility of staff supervision and facility management.
  • Certified in Personal Training and Group Fitness required. Yoga, and/or Pilates preferred.
  • CPR/AED certified is an asset.
  • Advanced computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email); working knowledge of Club Automation preferred.
  • Physical effort required to carry out daily duties such as lifting supplies and gym equipment potentially in excess of 50lbs.
  • Must have excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills and must be able to interact with all levels of guests in a professional and cordial manner.
  • Exceptional organizational/problem solving skills, must be self-motivated and very detail oriented.
  • Flexible shift availability including evenings, weekends and holidays. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the club. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
