Fitness Centre Supervisor 25020P Regular Part-Time North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is dedicated to building healthy individuals, families, and communities. NVRC offers a wide range of recreation and cultural programs and services to residents of all ages and abilities. We are looking for a specialized recreation leader at a working supervisor level in overseeing the day-to-day operations, programs and activities of a weight room. You will supervise a moderate group of staff engaged in diverse weight room activities; monitor operating budgets and inventories; interact with a wide range of clients, promote interest and participation in fitness activities; assist in the development and implementation of fitness programs, special events and workshops; and ensure a high quality of weight room services are provided. You will have considerable independent action and initiative is exercised on individual aspects of the work.

ABOUT YOU You will have considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of weight training and fitness programs and of the various types of weight training equipment. You will have considerable knowledge of personal training and rehabilitation services and working knowledge of the principles of anatomy and physiology as it applies to the work performed. You will be knowledgeable of the interests, requirements and resources of the community served. As the supervisor you will assign, supervise and review the work of staff and volunteers, conduct staff and volunteer orientation and in-service training and oversee weight room operations. You will have an ability to evaluate individuals’ fitness levels, develop individual and small group weight training and fitness programs, and provide advice, guidance and referral services relative to health, fitness and wellness matters.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

You have completed a post-secondary degree in a recognized fitness and health discipline and have experience in a supervisory capacity. You have a B.C. Driver’s License. You have valid accreditation with the BCRPA Fitness Leadership program or equivalent. You have Emergency First Aid CPR-C & AED.

All employees should be available to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location.

The successful applicant will be required to use their own vehicle when necessary. Mileage is reimbursed at the appropriate rates.

All candidates are required to submit a Police Record Check as a requirement of the position prior to any appointment. The pay for this unionized position ranges from $33.25 - $39.14 per hour (2024 rates), plus a comprehensive benefits package. This is a regular part-time position, working 28 hours per week including weekends, days or evenings based on operational needs.
