Job summary

A leading aerospace manufacturing firm in Pointe-Claire is seeking a First Piece Inspector to oversee the quality of machined parts. The role involves inspecting initial parts and using complex measurement tools, ensuring they meet specified requirements. Ideal candidates have a technical diploma and at least 2 years of relevant experience, particularly in CMM operation. Bilingualism is an asset. This position offers a competitive shift premium for evening shifts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge in CMM programming is an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret English work instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect first parts and approve initial parts machined.
  • Perform final inspection of complex parts.
  • Measure parts with manual instruments and ensure dimensions meet specifications.
  • Operate Mitutoyo and Zeiss CMMs for measurements.
  • Complete Non-conformance Report (NCR) forms for discrepancies.

Under the responsibility of the head of the quality department, the first piece inspector will be responsible for the inspection and approval of first-machined parts before the start of production.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect first parts—Approval of all initial parts machined by CNC operators/machinist;
  • Perform final inspection of complex parts;
  • Measure the parts with manual instruments (Vernier and micrometer) and ensure all dimensions meet the requirements of the operation sheets and/or engineering drawings;
  • Operate Mitutoyo and Zeiss CMMs to perform part measurements with high accuracy;
  • Complete Non-conformance Report (NCR) forms when discrepancies or deviations from specifications are identified.

Job qualifications

  • Technical diploma in machining techniques or any combination of technical training and relevant experience;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role, particularly in operating CMMs (Mitutoyo & Zeiss);
  • Knowledge in CMM programming is an asset;
  • Knowledge of geometric tolerances (GD&T);
  • Bilingual (French and English) is an asset (Ability to read and interpret English work instructions);
  • Availability to work on day shift (6:40 AM-2:30PM) or evening shift (3:15 PM – 11:15 PM)- 2$ premium for evening!
