Job summary

Pomeroy Lodging in Western Canada is seeking a skilled 1st Cook to join our culinary team. You will prepare and cook a variety of dishes, ensuring quality, taste, and presentation align with our brand experience and guest expectations.

You will assist the Executive Chef with menu ordering, inventory, and daily production planning, oversee kitchen operations on your shift, maintain cleanliness and health and safety standards, and help plan special events and banquets.

Qualifications

• Two years of culinary experience.
• Leadership experience in culinary field.
• Journeyman’s papers or international equivalent.
• Foodsafe Level 2 or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and cooks a variety of dishes according to established recipes while ensuring quality, taste, and presentation.
• Assists Executive Chef with menu ordering, inventory, and daily production planning.
• Oversees kitchen operations during their shift to ensure smooth workflow, timely execution, and adherence to standards.
• Ensures cleanliness and maintenance of all work areas, utensils, and equipment with health and safety SOPs.
• Maintains full knowledge of menu items, daily features, and promotions, ensuring service quality.
• Assists in planning and executing special events, such as banquets.

Experience/Passions/Education

• Two years of culinary experience.
• Previous leadership experience in the culinary field.
• Journeyman’s papers or international equivalent required.
• Valid Foodsafe certificate or advanced (Level 2) Food Safety certification is preferred.

Working Conditions

This position may work dayshift, afternoon, or evening shift any day of the week or weekend with long days to meet periodic upturns in business demands or meet deadlines. This position is set in a fast-paced and, at times, high-pressure environment that requires continuous physical movement, the ability to lift up to 30 lbs., and the ability to manage multiple sequences and demands. There may be periods of independent work and changes in temperature from the back to the front of the house.
