Job summary

RiseMe in Ottawa, Canada is seeking a Firmware Engineer II to design, develop, and test embedded software for pluggable optical transceiver modules. You will collaborate with Optical, Hardware, and Test engineers to deliver production-grade firmware for next-generation optical products.

Main qualifications include a Bachelor's in Electrical/Computer Engineering, strong C skills for embedded systems, RTOS experience, and familiarity with ARM microcontrollers and UART/SPI/I2C protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related.
• Proficient in C programming for embedded software.
• Debugging software experience.
• Real-time operating systems experience.
• Familiar with ARM or other microcontrollers.
• Familiar with UARTs, SPI and I2C protocols.
• Proficient with reading schematics and using an oscilloscope.
• Familiarity with optical networking (OTN, Gigabit Ethernet) is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform all aspects of embedded firmware design and development, including architecture, design, implementation, testing, and debugging
• Write device drivers for complex ASICs, FPGA’s, and other components
• Contribute to hardware design and participate in hardware design reviews
• Support the initial turn-up of new hardware
• Work with optical, hardware, and test engineers to ensure product goals are met
• Develop automation scripts to validate and test the product firmware
• Develop user interfaces for transceiver assemblies and plugs
• Assist in the design and implementation of manufacturing test fixtures

The Firmware Engineer II will design, develop, and test the embedded software for pluggable optical transceiver modules within the Optical Engines product unit. You will work closely with Optical, Hardware, and Test engineers to deliver high-quality, production-grade firmware for next-generation optical products.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform all aspects of embedded firmware design and development, including architecture, design, implementation, testing, and debugging

• Write device drivers for complex ASIC’s, FPGA’s, and other components

Requirements & Work Environment:

• Permanent, full-time position

• 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday, in-office

• Primary location in Ottawa, Canada

• Must be authorized to work in Canada
