Job summary

Delta-Q Technologies in Vancouver, BC, seeks an experienced embedded software engineer to lead firmware development for microcontroller-based systems within a multi-disciplinary engineering team.

The role focuses on designing, optimizing, and validating firmware with emphasis on reliability and maintainability, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to architecture improvements. This is a full-time temporary contract for 15+ months.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related discipline.
  • Professional embedded software development experience in production or high‑reliability environments.
  • Proficiency in C for firmware/embedded systems with strong debugging/optimization.
  • Experience with microcontroller platforms (Renesas RX, TI MSP430, STM32, NXP).
  • Understanding of embedded development tools and toolchains (compilers, debuggers, IDEs).
  • Working knowledge of RTOS concepts and experience with FreeRTOS/Zephyr.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and optimizes embedded firmware for MCU-based systems.
  • Develops new firmware features and enhancements to meet evolving product and system-level requirements.
  • Diagnoses and resolves firmware issues across multiple hardware platforms and product variants.
  • Defines and executes validation and verification strategies to ensure robust performance and reliability.
  • Collaborates closely with hardware, systems, and test engineers to integrate, debug, and refine embedded solutions.
  • Conducts and guides peer code reviews, promoting high coding standards and best practices.
  • Creates, reviews, and maintains detailed technical documentation including architecture documents, design specs, and test procedures.
  • Provides support to application engineering, product support teams, and manufacturing to resolve escalated technical challenges.
  • Tracks development progress, manages technical risks, and communicates status and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives in firmware architecture, development processes, toolchains, and workflows.
  • Stays informed on emerging technologies, industry advancements, and best practices in embedded software engineering.

Position Summary:

Delta‑Q is seeking an experienced embedded software professional to play a key technical role within a multi‑disciplinary engineering team. This position is responsible for leading complex firmware development initiatives, driving architectural improvements, and providing advanced technical guidance across product lines. The Engineer designs, develops, optimizes, and validates embedded software with a focus on reliability, scalability, and long‑term maintainability. The ideal candidate demonstrates technical leadership, mentors junior engineers, and actively contributes to advancing Delta‑Q’s software capabilities.

This position is a full time, temporary contract for 15+ months.

Specific Duties:
  • Designs, implements, and optimizes embedded firmware for microcontroller‑based systems.

  • Develops new firmware features and enhancements to meet evolving product and system‑level requirements.

  • Hands‑on experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, and power supplies for advanced debugging.

  • Understanding of software development lifecycles, Agile methodologies, and best engineering practices.

  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN) and branching strategies for large codebases.

Base Salary:

$90,000 - $125,000 per year plus bonus.

The compensation offered will be determined by experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skills.
