Job summary

Motorola Solutions is seeking a Firmware Developer II to join our Video Division in Vancouver. You will develop and maintain software for cutting-edge video security products, participate in the full software lifecycle, and contribute to high‑speed data processing with multi-threaded C++.

You will work with Linux device drivers, modern toolchains (Make, CMake, Python), and collaborate across teams to define tests and ensure quality, while continuously learning embedded systems and security

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of firmware or software development experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to explain complex concepts.
  • Experience with Linux device drivers and low-level system components is a plus.

Responsibilities

Motorola Solution's Video Division designs, develops, and manufactures advanced AI, video analytics, network video management software and hardware, surveillance cameras, and access control solutions that help change the way people interact with their security systems.

Job Description

We are seeking a Firmware Developer II to join our development team. In this role, you will work to develop, test, and maintain software for our cutting‑edge video security products. You will participate in the full software development lifecycle, from initial coding to system integration and debugging.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of multi-threaded software in C++ for high-speed data processing and networking.
  • Implement software modules based on modern C++ design patterns and established coding standards.
  • Assist in the development and debugging of Linux device drivers and low-level system components.
  • Identify and resolve software bugs and performance bottlenecks under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Document technical designs, algorithms, and unit tests to ensure long-term code maintainability.
  • Support the firmware build system using tools like Make, CMake, and Python.
  • Participate in code reviews to learn best practices and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to help define test cases and assist in regression testing.
  • Communicate effectively with team members across different design centers and engineering disciplines.
Qualifications
  • Strong foundational knowledge of C, C++, and Python programming languages.
  • Understanding of operating system concepts, including processes, threads, mutexes, and memory management.
  • Familiarity with C/C++ compilation and debugging tools (e.g. cmake, GCC, GDB).
  • Exposure to scripting languages (Bash) and version control systems (Git).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a desire to learn complex embedded systems.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
Beneficial Qualifications
  • Comfortable using Artificial Intelligence tools like copilot and claude code.
  • Experience working with and implementing agentic workflows at scale.
  • A background in or experience with developing video streaming applications.

Target Base Salary Range: 100,000 - 120,000 CAD
