Job description

Fire Prevention Inspector (Firefighter Graduates Welcome) in Windsor, Ontario

Looking to gain experience for a career as a Firefighter? You have come to the right ad! We are looking for fire prevention inspectors to join our client in Windsor, ON. The site can fit over 15 Rogers Centres!

Fire Prevention Specialist/Inspector is a critical member of the Fire Prevention Team and is responsible for all aspects of fire prevention and education throughout the duration of their shift. This role requires the FPS to work a continental rotation shift of days and nights. You will hold NFPA Level I and II certificates, IMS100 certification, and a G Class Driver's Licence. The FPS reports directly to the Security Shift Supervisor and is responsible for the following:

Pay Rate: $25.00/hr

Shift: Days and Nights Continental Rotation

Life Safety Inspections:

  1. Inspection, maintenance, and use of personal protective equipment including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), identifying and reporting all deficiencies.
  2. Basic maintenance of security patrol vehicles and reporting all deficiencies.
  3. Maintain operational knowledge of Client Fire Prevention Standard and relevant building and fire codes and enforce these codes and standards.
  4. Evaluate, establish, and enforce fire and life safety plans and conduct & observe fire evacuation drills.
  5. Deliver internal training to Securitas and Client personnel to raise awareness of fire prevention programs and activities.
  6. Provide technical support and training for employee personnel.
  7. Attend and successfully complete any training required by Client or designate, which may be internal, off-site, or out of City.
  8. Conduct daily checks of CO2 and sprinkler riser systems.
  9. Conduct monthly checks of life safety devices as assigned by the S/AM.
  10. Complete fire safety shop audits and identify fire/safety concerns and report to confirm corrective action to eliminate hazards and follow up to confirm compliance.
  11. Identify, investigate, and report fire/safety hazards coordinating with SAM, Health & Safety, or Facilities Engineering for repairs.
  12. Maintain operational knowledge of the mechanics and locations of the fire suppression systems on site.
  13. Maintain operational knowledge of sprinkler system mechanics to identify trouble signals, alarm signals, leaks, and sprinkler flows on any given system.

Qualifications:

  1. Valid Ontario Security Guard License or willing to obtain.
  2. NfPA 1031 Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner Level I & II, including all the Ontario Fire College supplemental courses prescribed by the OFMEM.
  3. NfPA 1035 - Fire and Life Safety Educator Levels I and II.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Supplemental course in Commercial Cooking Suppression Equipment.
  2. Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code Act and regulation considered an asset.
  3. Experience with code enforcement and courtroom procedures would be considered an asset.

Requirements:

  1. Must be able to display clear and quick thinking to resolve problems while being able to withstand stress and stay calm under pressure.
  2. Must successfully pass SCBA Fit Testing.
  3. Must be able to complete all Client FPI required training.
  4. Speak, read, and write English fluently, and communicate clearly under demanding conditions.
  5. Competent in the use of Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  2. Office of the Fire Marshal Technical Guidelines (TG);
  3. Fire Marshal's Directives;
  4. Provincial Offences Act (POA);
  5. Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA);
  6. Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA);
  7. Workplace Safety Insurance Act (WSIA);
  8. Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA);
  9. Electrical Safety Authority (ESA);
