Job summary

EFI Global is a full‑service engineering and investigative firm seeking a Fire Investigator. The role focuses on origin-and-cause investigations, loss/claim analysis, and coordination with insurers and authorities.

You will conduct evidence gathering, witness interviews, and report writing with strict adherence to legal and ethical standards. Travel is required up to 30–40%, with opportunities to work locally or across provincial boundaries.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred.
  • Minimum certification: CFEI; IAAI-CFI preferred; obtain IAAI-CFI within 6 months.
  • Minimum of three years of experience or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Accepts assignments and pursues investigation according to client needs.
  • Determines origin and cause of loss and identifies third‑party responsibility.
  • Maintains required reporting commitments to clients per procedures.
  • Promotes EFI Global in the insurance industry and within territory.
  • Liaises between insurance industry and law enforcement/fire personnel.
  • Interviews witnesses and analyzes information to reach factual conclusions.
  • Develops knowledge of public records and applicable laws.
  • Follows industry‑standard methodologies for investigations.
  • Maintains positive relationships with clients, colleagues, and subcontractors.
  • Complies with safety programs and company policies.

PRIMARY PURPOSE
  • Accepts assignments from customers for investigation of losses or claims and pursues investigation in accordance with the specific needs of the assignment.
  • Determines the origin and cause of the loss/claim under investigation and identifies any potential third-party responsibility for subrogation potential.
  • Maintains required reporting commitments to client in accordance with EFI Global’ s, standard procedures.
  • Promotes and markets utilization of EFI Global in the insurance industry and within assigned territory.
  • Serves as a liaison between the insurance industry and law enforcement/fire service personnel.
  • Investigates losses/claims with illegal, fraudulent or subrogation aspects in accordance with assignment from client or assigned attorney representing insurer.
  • Identifies and interviews all witnesses or involved persons who may possess information or knowledge pertaining to incident under investigation: motive, opportunity or any other information or evidence that may assist in concluding a factual and complete investigation.
  • Develops necessary knowledge and expertise required to conduct thorough inspection of available public records including land deeds, mortgages, liens, suits, judgments, marriage and divorce records, etc.
  • Maintains up-to-date information in regard to existing laws pertaining to rights of privacy and availability of public records to assure that all investigations are conducted in a completely legal and ethical manner.
  • Follows industry acceptable methodology for performance of services.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with clients, colleagues, subcontractors and prospects.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complies with Company’s Safety Programs/Standards
  • Properly utilizes Personal Protection Equipment
  • Exercises appropriate use, care, and maintenance of equipment (company owned or leased)
  • Complies with company standards and best practices regarding the storage of equipment
  • Meets or exceeds productivity levels and daily time submission as determined by manager.
  • Complies with all Human Resources Policies, Programs, and Initiatives
  • All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred.
  • Minimum certification requirement for consideration, Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI).
  • IAAI Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI) certification is preferred. Will be required to obtain the IAAI-CFI certification within 6 months of employment.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Travel, at least, 30-40% of the time. Can be local or across provincial boundaries. Exposure to all elements of the weather Walking, climbing, etc., as required Occasional lifting, up to 50 pounds, as required 40-60% work in field environment
