Job description

We are currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Fire Fighter/Primary Care Paramedic with the Department of Public Safety, to work out of the Yellowknife Fire Division.


Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities Include: fire suppression duties; emergency medical response and transport; rescue and extrication operations; preventative maintenance on property, apparatus, and equipment; participation in scheduled training; participation in fire inspection, public education, and life safety programs; work under potentially hazardous, physically and psychologically demanding conditions; communicate effectively, respectfully, and inclusively at all times.


Qualifications:

Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Candidates must also have:

  1. A high school diploma or equivalency
  2. A current PCP License and registration from any Canadian jurisdiction
  3. Successfully completed NFPA standards 1001 Level I & II
  4. A Class 3 driver's license with Airbrake endorsement with no current or pending suspensions
  5. A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check

Completion of NFPA 1002, 1072 Hazmat, 1006 Rescue, and 1051 Wildland qualifications are considered assets.


Progression:

The below outlines the progression through the Yellowknife Fire Department, based on meeting minimum testing, technical and physical requirements:

Class IV Firefighter - Pay Rate: $83,631 - 0 to 12 months municipal experience

Class III Firefighter - Pay Rate: $89,207 - 12 to 24 months municipal experience

Class II Firefighter - Pay Rate: $100,357 - 24 to 36 months municipal experience

Class I Firefighter - Pay Rate: $111,508 - 36 to 48 months municipal experience
