Job Description

WHAT'S THE JOB?

We are seeking a dedicated Fire Basecamp Labourer to help maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment at fire base camps. This role supports firefighters, emergency personnel, and camp staff by ensuring facilities are sanitary and operational. Responsibilities include general cleaning, waste disposal, minor maintenance, and assisting with camp logistics to ensure efficiency in a high-paced setting.

This position requires adaptability, physical endurance, and the ability to work in demanding conditions where fire activity may impact scheduling. Candidates must be comfortable working in remote bush camp settings, often hours from town with limited or no cell reception and Wi-Fi. Accommodations may range from tents to lodges, and living outdoors is expected.

Key responsibilities include :
  1. Removing garbage and disposing of it at designated sites daily.
  2. Managing laundry collection, distribution, and management in fire camp.
  3. Sweeping, mopping, and wiping surfaces to maintain cleanliness.
  4. Safely disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  5. Organizing materials and tools on-site.
  6. Performing planned utility checks (lights, doors, taps, etc.).
  7. Troubleshooting utility issues (clogged toilets, leaks, damaged equipment).
  8. Assisting with unloading deliveries of materials and supplies.
  9. Performing manual labor tasks, including bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
  10. Assembling and dismantling equipment.
  11. Supporting janitorial and housekeeping staff.
  12. Driving as needed.
  13. Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • At least six months of experience as a labor or maintenance helper in construction or commercial settings.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
  • Physical stamina for manual tasks over extended periods, including lifting up to 50 lbs, walking, and standing.
  • Basic hand tool operation skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
  • Comfort working in warm, wet, humid, or dry environments on various surfaces.
  • Physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders or stairs, and performing repetitive hand tasks.

Work Schedule and Compensation

Fire camp workers must commit to a 2-3 week rotation. Locations are remote bush settings, with accommodations ranging from tents to lodges, depending on fire activity. Work hours include nights, weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Wages start at $18.73-$19.75 per hour.
